I realized that when cosmetics with the word “moon” in it is a great marketing tactic, because it somehow attracts people into making themselves shimmer and beam. I think it’s an unspoken rule or something, the word “moon” + “random synonom for shine/beam/glow/highlighter/illuminator” = some product for highlighting. I think people like looking like stars and moons- we have “sun kissed looks” and highlighters to make yourself lookinig like a moon.
A moon isn’t glittery or sparkly, and that is what Urban Decay’s Moonshine is- not glittery or sparkly. When Hautelook had a Urban Decay sale, I jumped at the opportunity and bought several items- one including this highlighter in “Moonshine” for $5.

Description from Urban Decay site-
Sure, we think you’re beautiful, but that doesn’t mean you can’t emphasize your assets. Our silky cream highlighter gives you the power to guide their eyes to all the right places.Packed with pearl powders, the weightless formula adds luminescence wherever you need it: Craft contours where there were none. Create sculpted cheek and brow bones. Look like you got a full night’s sleep with a touch of Urbanglow in the inner corners of your eyes. Hide that hangover with a dewy, youthful glow. The non-greasy formula dries down instantly, and can be worn right on top of makeup. Each shade is subtle enough to work on any skin tone – just pick the effect you desire… a bit of iridescent innocence, or a touch of smoldering bronze. All are infinitely wearable and ridiculously flattering (kind of like you’re standing by candlelight).
The product is in a little purple compact case. Once opened, there is a mirror + the product in a pan. The product is very, very soft and silky. If you accidentally put too much pressure into the pan, you end up leaving drastic thumbprints or even a little crater in it.

Wherever my finger touches the product, you can see it. The product is a very light pink highlighter- once put on the contours of the skin and reflect it from the light, I can see some pink and blue glow. There is a blue-y shine, and when I tried putting it on the bridge of my nose, I immediately wiped it off. Having some pink shine on my nose is one thing, but blue is a bit too artificial. The product does give a nice glow on the cheekbones and the brow bones.

On the left is the swatch of moonshine, and on the right is the blended picture. It gives a soft, dewy look. In my opinion, those with oily skin shouldn’t try this since you are adding pink and blue shine on oily skin. I can’t capture the blue shine via photos, but I swear, I see blue when the product reflects light at certain angles.
Because glasses gives me a one dimensional face, I like to use this product on my cheekbones. It’s very soft and creamy, and easy to spread and blend.

The cheekbone on my left side/ your right side is more visible since I only applied the product on one side to show you.

One complaint I have is the lasting power. I had some on my brow bones and it was gone after 3 hours. They do not work well in stuffy weather. It also highlights my pores, so sometimes I wear a primer underneath the highlighter for a longer lasting glowy complexion.
Overall– the product is easy to apply and I like the glow it gives off- more natural than sparkles and glitter. Even with the pink and blue shine, Moonshine enhances cheekbones wonderfully. Lasting power can be prolonged with primer. Getting this product for $5 was definitely a good decision. Products with the word “moon” attracts me too much!
