Joshrooms and I were going to have a fulfilling soup adventure the other day, and after making one pit stop for soup at Simply French Cafe, we ended up switching our food of focus and found ourselves salivating at True Confections for cake instead. True Confections does not sell your typical small slice of cake. They have giant, tall slices of cake that requires someone with a big stomache to finish! We  decided to share a slice of Toasted Almond cake.

This was a huge slice of cake, and it was the perfect size to share because I would have never been able to finish this alone.

The almond buttercream was quite heavy, so I had take small scoops of it with my fork and eat it accordingly with the sponge cake portion. The almond taste within the sponge part of the was very pleasant, light, and fluffy. Although it was a good, giant slice of cake, I don’t think it justifies the $7.50 price tag. You can get a box of cream sponge cake from Asian bakeries for approximately $5, and I think the quality is the same.

Also ordered a pot of ginger lemongrass tea, very smoothing with cake in the afternoon!

Also because I checked my friend and I in via Facebook, we got $2 ($1/person) discount off our slice of cake! The server there was nice to give us $2 off one slice even though we shared. You can check in via Twitter and Four Squared to receive $1 discount off per person for a slice of cake.

Dessert adventures are fun with friends, but I wouldn’t say True Confections is my favourite. However, if you’re near UBC, True Confections is only a 10 minute bus ride away!
