Hello readers! Sorry for haven’t blogging in a while, but I have finally finished being an artist for two craft fairs for the past two weekends and now I have time again! The past 1.5 months have been a whirlwind since I’ve been making a lot of polymer clay jewelry to sell for Cos and Effect and Anime Revolution. In fact, I averaged 3-4 hours of sleep per night! Being an artist at conventions was a great experience and I learned lots of advice for future conventions which I do plan to participate. Additionally, I met a lot of new people and talked to many customers who were as passionate as I am about geeky stuff, anime stuff, and jewelry in general. [Read more…]
Face + Outfit of the Day: Theodora from Oz the Great and Powerful
I apologize for the huge delay in blogging. Cos and Effect started last week at The University of British Columbia. Cos and Effect is an annual convention that promotes cosplaying and alternative fashion. As I mentioned in a couple posts ago, my friend and I are were selling crafts at the Artist Alley. The past month and half, my friend and I were making polymer clay jewellery almost daily, and I was too exhausted to do anything else. When I went to the convention, I also dressed up as well, since what is going to a convention without a costume? On the first day, my friend and I dressed up as Theodora and Oz from Oz the Great and Powerful. [Read more…]
DIY Robe: Luna Lovegood Costume
Taking a break from constantly blogging about makeup or food or whatnot, I was going through old pictures from my computer and found my folder of pictures I took while I was lining up for the midnight (for 12 hours) showing of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. As some of you may know, I’m a diehard Harry Potter fan, and one of the items on my bucket list is to meet Daniel Radcliffe, despite whatever age I am, I’m still true to Harry, hence the word “wand” in my website title.
I’ve always prided on my semi-creativity to make something out of scratch, and I was determined to construct a Luna Lovegood costume for the midnight showing.
To make the Ravenclaw robe, I used instructions from this site here. I bought the cheapest blue and black fabric I could find, since I was on a budget, and I paid approximately $10 for fabric. I didn’t have a sewing machine at the time, so everything was (messily) handsewn. Of course, I didn’t want to just make a robe, I wanted to go all out.
Underneath my robe, is the school uniform. I wore a plain white dress shirt, grey vest, a grey skort, and a Ravenclaw tie. I didn’t want to buy one, so I bought a blue tie from a dollar store, and painted bronze stripes over it!
I also made felt raddish earrings. I got the pattern from a felt strawberry sewing pattern, and modified it a bit to make it look like a raddish. I also made Luna’s spectrospecs by printing the pattern offline, colouring them in, and pasted them over my own glasses! It’s very hard to cosplay in glasses, but I’m glad Luna’s costume made it work. Embarrassingly, I also borrowed my friend’s Hannah Montana wig so I would even pull off Luna’s golden hair.

Lastly, Luna is not complete without reading her Quibbler turned upside down! I took a magazine, and just painted the front page with a teal colour and drew the rest out with a sharpie- mimicking from an image I found on google.

Here’s the overall look! Unfortunately, I do not have big eyes like Luna, and I was squinting at the Quibbler paper because it was very sunny that day.

It was extremely fun making this costume from head to toe! I wish I had a chance to wear it again 🙁 With no more movies, I can only cherish my handmade stuff from my bedroom!
Do you handsew stuff? Are you a Harry Potter fan? Let me know! 🙂
