The weather in over here in Vancouver continues to be great and I decided to break free out of my comfort zone and wore a skirt going out. I’m more of a shorts or jeans kind of person, but it’s fun to dress up once in a while! Mint green clothing still holds a gravitational pull on me and I opted to incorporate some mint in my look today. [Read more…]
Get Ready With Me: Graduation!
Hey everyone! Sorry for another long blogging delay, I’ll try to be more frequent I promise! I will also try to respond to comments faster! My friends were graduating so I spent my time running around my university campus…and then it was my turn for my actual graduation! And between getting ready for graduation I got throat infection…twice!
The graduation ceremony was long and a bit boring, and all the picture taking after of it was exhausting and fun- and it is a memory that will stick in my mind forever and I was glad to be surrounded by my friends and family. Without them, I would have never been able to get my Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Electrical Engineering! It was a 5 year journey with many obstacles, but it was worth all the sweat and tears!
This post is on sharing my outfit for my graduation and my face of that day! It was a rainy and chilly day, so I had to be prepared! For the makeup- my two worries were sweating my makeup off or having my makeup washed off in the rain. From being at UBC from 9:30-2:00pm, I was so, so happy that my makeup barely budged, although I noticed my pores were getting a little bit oily towards the end of the ceremony.
I started to prep my face with my usual morning skincare routine: cleanser – > toner – > moisturizer. After prepping my skin, I used a primer-using SHISEIDO Pore Smoothing Corrector and then on top I used a foundation- DIOR DiorSkin Nude Teint Eclat in 021.
For the eyes- I used Urban Decay NAKED Palette and used Virgin on the browbone, Naked all over the eyelid, and Buck at the crease/outer corner of the eyes. The eyeliner I used was Kat Von D’s tattoo liner in Trooper, and lastly, I used a waterproof mascara – CoverGirl LashBlast volume. I used BareMinerals Stroke of Light Eye Brightener to cover my undereye circles.
Lastly for the cheeks, I dabbed a bit of Tarte’s Amazonian clay 12 hour blush in Dollface and Victoria Secret Baked Mineral Bronzing Powder in Glowing (this bronzer was bought last year and I recently fell in love with again and have been using it daily!) For my lips, I dabbed some lip balm on and and DIOR Lip Maximizer lip gloss.
For my outfit, I was looking for something formal, and I found this cute dress at the sale rack at Street/Below the Belt at Richmond Centre! The lace and bow detailing at the front of the dress sold me.
Sorry for the not-as-great-quality pictures, it was a busy day that day and I didn’t manage to do a lot of captures.
My heels were from Aldo. I liked the short heel, which made it a tad bit more comfortable to walk in. The two toned black and white colours of the shoes matched the grad gown and the dress I wore! These heels look sophisticated and I can wear them for interviews and potentially, a future job. 🙂
Thanks for reading along my journey and now that one milestone of my life has been done, I hope many more will come and I will keep blogging! I will be setting up my own site (www.wandsandpliers.com) SOON, so I will update you when that is done! I know I’ve been blogging weekly rather than couple times a week, but to keep up to date and check in, feel free to follow me on Twitter or Instagram where I’m more active! 🙂
Also, I will be going to London next Wednesday, so I’m looking forward to sharing my overseas adventures!!
Outfit of the Day: Winter Colours with some Summer
Yay an “Outfit of the Day’ post! Yesterday I was glad to finally meet up with Justin from Mr Walk N Talk and reconnect over Asian food, spontaneous shopping, and taking pictures of our clothes! He has been a bit blue lately but I’m glad that my corny jokes helped him focus on how much fun we had (I hope!)
It was extremely sunny and warm in Vancouver for the past week, but this week it was a bit chillier and windier. I wore an oversized sweater I bought in Hong Kong and a pair of jeggings from Urban Behaviour. I kind of look like I was wearing winter clothing, but the sweater was light enough for this type of chilly but kind of warm weather.
I bought this Aldo bag last summer and this week is the first time I brought it out again for the summer season. The bag is a on the heavy side, but I love the size, colour, style, and gold detailing.
I didn’t feel like wearing flats, so I chose to wear a pair of booties. I bought these when I was in Hong Kong in December. I’m a huge fan of the colour khaki or anything that is a shade of military green. The small stud detailing with the buckle detail at the back makes these boots a bit less plain.
It’s been a while since we took pictures and it was oodles of fun! It was an unexpected day and I hope there will be more like these when we have another blogger adventure! We were also near some fence with “No Trespassing” signs all over it…spooky… 🙂
Handbag Lust + Military Boots Lust
CURRENTLY want…a black bag that can be used in a versatile fashion! Sometimes, I really need a black bag to go with any outfit, and that one black bag is something I’ve been trying to seek for a while!I prefer a medium sized-big since I carry a LOT of stuff, and my shoulders are practically destroyed, but that’s okay!
Trying to avoid putting the handbags wayyy beyond financial means! *sigh*Here’s my mini list!
1) Michael Michael Kors Large Fulton Satchel ($328)
2) The Hamilton Tote- I see these around a lot- large is $348, small is $298~
3) Or a simple tote- MICHAEL Michael Kors Jet Set Tote, and comparably less expensive at $228
As you can see- I do quite like Michael Kors. They’re timeless pieces, simple, and classy.
4) Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Baby Groovee Satchel, Black…$378 (though I’m sure Canadian price would be more expensive?)
I’ll probably end up with neither of them (or maybe one of the Michael Kors in the future future..), but wishful thinking is good too!
Another thing I love…military boots! They’re cool and totally my style. My old pair is dying on me a bit, and not sure what to get..a little help from my readers? 🙂
1. American Eagle Lace Up Boot– $69
2) TROOPA Boot- Steve Madden– $99.95
3) AUKES- Aldo- $120
How I wish money grew on trees! What do you think?
ALDO bag experience + Outfit of the Day
As much as I go into Aldo, I never actually bought any bags from there. Couple weeks ago, I bought my first Aldo bag- the Peach SCHLOTE ($48). I had a similar bag in light pink from Hong Kong two years ago, and it broke and I had thrown it away and I have been looking for a similar style. This peach-coral colour caught my eye in store, and the gold hardware on the bag completes the classy look.

There are buttons at the top that can be detached and make the bag bigger.

There are 3 pockets- 1 zipper, 1 semi big pocket, and another pocket to fit a phone.

I love bags with long straps so I can cross it over my shoulder sometimes, or use it as a purse. I also like the size of the bag- it can hold a decent amount of stuff, although it can get a bit heavy at times. When I first used the bag, I was disappointed. Literally, the first time I brought it out, and went home and I looked at the bag, I wasn’t very happy with what I saw. Apparently, some of the dye from my jeans rubbed off on the bag and left dark marks. Also, the plastic along the handle had gotten black as well. After one use, I wasn’t very happy.

Determined to make it work, I searched my cleaning supplies to scrub my bag brand new again. I put some shoe cream my mom had bought from Hong Kong on Mr. Clean’s Magic Eraser and scrubbed over all the ink marks on my bag.

Afterwards, I sprayed it with leather and suede spray to keep the bag looking new. My bag now has a new, leathery smell and I haven’t noticed any discolouring anymore on the bag. However, the plastic on the handle still gets dirty.

I have been using this leather spray for years on all my leather and pvc shoes. This spray has always kept them in good condition.
Now that my bag is nice and clean again, I have been using this constantly. It’s a great bag for this summer season! It looks great when pairing with neutral colored clothing, but I recently have been wearing this with other pastels to mix it up a bit!

Top: Forever 21 Polka Dot Dipped Hem, 3/4 sleeve top
Bottom: ZARA Mint blue-green jeans
Shoes: Nine West wedges
Bag: Aldo – the Schlote
I love coloured denim, especially the range ZARA has. At first, I would worry there was too much brightness going on, but PINTERST gives me loads of inspiration in putting outfits together!
What do you think of the bag? Anyone ever had disappointments with ALDO before?
