Ever since the pandemic happened, I’ve become aware of more Canadian brands as more people are finding ways to support the local economy. Recently, La Maison Clayton Shagal was made known to be – and their skincare products are made here in Montreal! They have been a leader in skincare for more than 35 years and thy focus on high quality skincare that is tailored to your specific requirements. Also, cruelty free! My bunny likes this par the most.
I received a few products that targets dry and dehydrated skin. Being stuck in the same room almost 24/7 now; I can feel the moisture being sucked out of my skin and into the recycled air in my home. Not to mention, I’ve been really poor in drinking water regularly. Two of the samples I was most excited about was the Cucumber and Avocado Mask and Bamboo and Honey Exfoliant. How elegant and aesthetically pleasing are these tube bottles?!

Cucumber and Avocado Mask: This is a thick, rich creamy mask that contains Cucumber Extract, Avocado Oil, and Sweet Almond Oil. The cucumber extract provides soothing and hydrating properties and the avocado oil has hydrating properties and stimulates collagen. Avocado oil also functions as an antioxidant. I like to use this after using the Bamboo and Honey Exfoliant to rejuvenate my skin after a nice hot shower. There is a light cucumber fragrance to it and it really feels like a thick moisturizer. The instruction is to leave it on for 10-15 minutes but I like to leave it on longer and just let my skin absorb the richness of it!
Bamboo and Honey Exfoliant: I think this is going to be one of my current favourite exfoliators! It has a strong honey scent; it reminds me of the honeycomb I have sitting in my pantry right now. It smells freakin’ delicious! It also reminds me of my honey milk tea with pearls – one of my favourite bubble teas. The bamboo stem extract (made from natural silica of the bamboo plant) is a natural exfoliator. The sweet almond oil and honey extract adds nourishment. Even after rising my face after, there is a light honey scent on my skin. There is a very fine scrubbiness to it and leaves the face very soft after! Even if you don’t want to use a mask after, your regular moisturizer will do.

Milk Cleanser: I was testing Clayton Shagal products on the back of my hand at first (exfoliant, mask, then cleanser) and noticed my hand looked a bit brighter. To make sure it wasn’t just me, I went to my fiancé and asked him if he thought the back of my hand looks different and if so, which one looked “better.” He pointed to the one where I used the products on!
The milk cleanser is a 2 in 1 – make up remover and cleanser. The key ingredients are cocoa seed butter, Vitamin E, and Glycerin. I haven’t worn a face full of heavy makeup in a while but the cleanser leaves my skin feeling soft and bright.

Hyaluronic Acid Serum: If they took the super serum given to Captain America and made one for the skin, the Hyaluronic Acid Serum would be it. The benefits of this one includes providing intense moisture (of course,) prevent premature skin aging, provides plumping effect, adds a glowing effect, reduce UV ray damage, strengthening the outer layer of skin, and an important one – stimulate the production of collagen. As I’m hitting my 30’s now, I definitely want to preserve as much collagen as I can!! When I apply this on, there is a cooling effect to it – which feels really nice after a good face scrub.
It has low, medium, and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid.
Low Molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid – Powerful moisturizer that penetrates all the way to the dermis increasing fibroblasts production.
Medium Molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid – Regenerates and stimulates cells. It restores the lipid barrier and protects the skin from free radicals and dehydration.
High Molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid – Powerful moisturizer that penetrates throughout the skin’s stratum corneum while retaining water and moisture.

I received two moisturizers which I’ve been alternating. Each moisturizer also comes with a small plastic spatula.
Collagen Gel Plus In-Depth Moisturizer: This one targets those who are 35 and younger aka me! Though it won’t be too long until I’m going full on antiaging. Soluable collagen is the second ingredient on the list – which is their Non-hydrolyzed Soluble Native Marine Collagen. The molecules are small enough to penetrate in the deepest layers of the skin to provide firmness and hydration to the skin. It also looks technologically advanced as it its a thick, transparent gel.
I find the Collagen Gel Plus to be very soothing if you burnt yourself and wanted to apply something topically, or if the skin is healing from a popped zit. It’s also lighter which is perfect for the upcoming spring and summer season.

Idratense Ultra Firming Cream: The Idratense contains a lot more ingredients than the Collagen Gel Plus – it includes shea butter, carob seed extract, Acetyl Dipeptide (amino acid to stimulate elastin, regenerate tissue,) Matrixyl 3000™ (a trademarked peptide to stimulate collagen,) Sodium Hyaluronate (moisturizer,) Vitamin E, and Sunflower Oil.
Compared to the Collagen Gel Plus, the Ultra Firming Cream feels like a soft whipped cream. It feels very emollient and has a light floral scent. 40 year old me may enjoy this more, but hopefully me using a product like this now, will still keep my skin in excellent condition as I age! Between the two, the Collagen Gel Plus is more suited to my age and needs now, whereas this one is more for future skincare planning!
And if you have a different type of skin, such has combination or sensitive, there are other Clayton Shagal products to match your needs. I was on their website and I like how there is dedicated skincare products and you’re not overwhelmed with too many selections in each product category. To purchase Clayton Shagal products, you can find a boutique or spa near you with their online locator.
Hope everyone finds a moment for some self care!
