I’ve been a bit more MIA lately as I have just moved into my new (rental) place and building furniture has me exhausted and needles to say have been sucking the life out of my skin. In between my new super far away job and home-stuff shopping, I did find a time for media events still. Recently, I was introduced to the skincare brand Jowaé (pronounced tcho-wha-é.) Jowaé is a Franco-Korean skincare line that you can now find at Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacies and online at beauty.shoppersdrugmart.ca.
I haven’t tested the whole collection fully yet (as there’s so many things to play with,) but here is a breakdown of what you can find in Shoppers and what I think of the few products I have used. Jowaé focuses on four fundamental steps of your skincare routine – cleanse, prepare, activate, and correct. You can pick and choose which products you want to tailor to your individual skintype.

To cleanse, there is the option of the Soothing Cleansing Milk or the Purifying Cleansing Gel ($20.50 CAD) as shown above on the right. It is aimed for oily skin as the antioxidant Lumiphenols and sacred Lotus extract to rebalance and purify the skin. The Lumiphenols are a key ingredient in Jowae products; they originated from the plant sempervivum tectorum. It is a succulent that resist extreme conditions and contains a high level of antioxidants. (I may want to see if I can get the plant to keep at home now.)
The part which I’m most intrigued about is the antibacterial lipoaminoacid in the cleansing gel which prevents imperfections from forming. I’ve only used it twice so far; the first time I squeezed too much and it was a bit thick. It has a nice lather and made my skin feel clean without the tight feeling. However, I do not have oily skin so I cannot comment if the cleansing gel helped on that part.
The next step is to prepare. The Hydrating Water Mist ($19 CAD) is inspired by Korean moisturizers used after removing makeup. It contains Sakura Blossom Water and basically it makes your face smell amazing, while giving your skin a quick blast of hydration. To be honest, I’ve been using this and all parts of my body that feels dry because it’s so easy!! My boyfriend had an itchy spot on his leg so I whipped this out and misted it and he thought it felt great.

Now that we got cleansing and prepping the skin done, the next is to activate. Jowaé’s Youth Concentrate Complexion Correcting ($52 CAD) is a serum with a more concentrated solution of antioxidant Lumiphenols. It also contains Vitamin B3 and Vitamin E. This serum has the benefits of being your skin’s best friend; as it slows down aging and helps with fading blemishes, smoothing skin, and increasing brightness. I’ve only used it a fair few times and feels like a slightly, watered down moisturizer and not heavy at all, making my skin ready for the last step.

Last step is to correct. I’d usually think serums are the correctors of skin, but this final step is to apply your moisturizer. There is the Moisturizing Light Cream ($30 CAD,) Wrinkle Smoothing Light Cream ($42 CAD,) and the Wrinkle Smoothing Rich Cream ($42 CAD.)
So far I have only tried the Moisturizing Light Cream and I will for sure repurchase this in the future! It smells so fragrant (but not dominating) as it has refreshing Sakura blossom. It also has the antioxidant Lumiphenols as well as vegetable glycerine and pine extract. I also love how it’s in a 40mL tube which makes it easy to carry on the plane. My skin feels plump and pretty after using it – zero complaints so far!
The Wrinkle Smoothing Rich Cream and Light Cream contains red ginseng to fight against aging. It also contains hyaluronic acid and glycerin to restore elasticity and bounce to skin. The light version is for those with normal to combination skin and the rich version is for people with drier skin. I haven’t tried either of these creams yet but as I’m getting closer to my 30’s, perhaps I should start!!!

We cannot forget about eye cream, as it also helps correct. The Wrinkle Smoothing Eye Serum ($37) is boosted with hyaluronic acid, brown seaweed extract, antioxidant Lumiphenols, and red ginseng. This eye serum is targeted to all those who want to reduce sign of fatigue and wrinkles under the eyes. It’s also fragrant free as the eye is a more sensitive area.
Apart from focusing on skincare, there is also the Jowaé Hand & Nail Nourishing Cream ($10 CAD.) It has a combination of Lumiphenols, camellia oil, shea butter, coconut butter, and urea. This hand cream has been with me everywhere in my purse as it has a rich and lush texture and makes my hands feel velvety soft. I’ve been unpacking a lot of cardboard boxes and building furniture and I can see dry lines and flakes on my hands. This hand cream has been my go to to reverse all that roughness my hands has been going through.
Overall – so far so impressed with the few products I have tried. I’m also loving the simple packaging with the pops of green. The products are scented nicely and the price point is reasonable as well. You can find Jowaé at Shoppers Drug Mart instores and online. Let me know if you think you will be picking anything up!
