A while back, I attended a lovely dinner at The Teahouse in Stanley Park and learned more about the brand, Dr. Hauschka. I’m the one who usually seeks out natural makeup, but I do appreciate it when it’s out there and especially when I get to sample some! The first time I tried was around Valentine’s day when I received their Lip Care Stick and a sample of the Volume Mascara. The Lip Care stick was used up after three months although I was not as impressed with the Volume Mascara. However, you may want to grab the Facial Toner or the Lip Glosses!
I wasn’t aware that Dr. Hauschka uses a lot of roses in their products, hence the fragrant scent in the Lip Care stick (and how emollient it is!) One of their classic moisturizers is the Rose Day Cream, where each tube contains 30 roses!! The Rose Day Cream contains extracts of rose petals and wild rose hips, as well as shea butter, rose petal wax, and avocado oil. The texture of the Rose Day Cream does feel a bit on the heavy side and I feel it’s almost TOO moisturizing.
When you first apply it, it feels thick and buttery, then it melts away and gets absorbed completely into the skin after a few minutes. This isn’t the type of cream you put on your skin and layer on with foundation immediately after (in my opinion!) I typically prefer a gel/gel cream type of lotion and this is one of the richest ones I’ve tried. I can really *feel* the quality with this as it really softened up the dry areas around the corners of my mouth (I swear it’s not dried saliva!!) For me, this is geared more towards a night cream / day cream if I have really dry patches. It definitely instantly soothes the dry areas and it has an herb and rose scent.
The Facial Toner comes in a spritz bottle and I’ve used it almost every day since I have had it. Having it in a spray bottle makes my morning routine more efficient and also perfect for travelling. My skin has been dried up like over baked cornbread this month and this is the perfect remedy. My facial moisturizers feel amazing over using the toner, and I’ve been spritzing it all over my neck and décolleté as well.
The scent is similar to the Rose Day Cream – kind of reminds me of the Caudalie Beauty Elixir. I brought it with me to Asia in May and there’s probably only a week’s worth of toner left in this. I went through this like eating a bunch of mochi ice cream. Need more!! Especially now that it’s summer; I love spritzing my face in the middle of the day to cool down and rehydrate.
The Volume Mascara is a natural mascara, so you won’t find stuff in there making it waterproof etc – which is something I like as I notice anything but waterproof mascara will end up on my under eyes. The formulation have nourishing ingredients including quince seed, silk, and candelilla wax and does a decent job making my straight lashes looking longer and fuller. Compared to other mascaras I’ve used in the past, this is a bit more basic. Those who enjoy green beauty products might like this as long as it doesn’t run everywhere.
If you like minimal amount of pigmentation and the qualities of the lip balm, the Sheer Lipstick in Shade 02 Rosanna is a lovely choice (I definitely put this in my office friendly lip colour category too!) Like the other products, there is also a hint of a rose scent but not too overpowering. It also has a slight shimmer that isn’t noticeable but adds a subtle sheen. I also like how it’s a long tube so it’s fairly portable. The Sheer Lipsticks contains rose hips, argan oil, and beeswax – making it a very hydrating product. Overall, this is probably more on the tinted lip balm scale, but the name doesn’t matter to me as much.
For a more colourful pout; the Lip Gloss is probably a better choice AND it’s not sticky at all! I am wearing Shade 02 Raspberry and there is a more pink and brightness to it compared to the Sheer Lipstick. I haven’t used too many natural lip glosses before and this one is a pleasant surprise. It contains mineral pigments and anthyllis (an European medicinal plant,) sea buckthorn oil, and mango butter.
With Dr.Hauschka, you won’t find fancy packaging and crazy colours as they tend to focus on using natural and botanical ingredients to ensure your skin receives what is best for it.
