YES…more lipsticks! How long has it been since I’ve talked about a lipstick on here?! Well, I got 12 to showcase and my lips were dry AF by the time I finished trying all of them. During this winter, Mary Kay launched 12 Gel Semi-Shine Lipsticks. If this sounds a wee bit familiar, during Fall 2016, Mary Kay released 12 Gel-Semi Matte Lipsticks (my review over here.)
As the name says, the Gel Semi-Shine Lipsticks ($21 CAD) uses gel microsphere technology; it has silica microspheres that will make the colour stay on top of the lips. They are all housed in a black case with an angled top and transparent window so you can see which colour you want. Like the Semi-Matte Lipsticks, these ones feel cushiony and creamy on the lips. A feel of the colours did highlight dry flakes (too common of a thing in winter time!!!) but the lipstick itself doesn’t dry me out. Scroll down for closeups of every shade!

The ‘nah not for me’ shades:
Naturally Buff was a bit unnatural on me since it was too close of a shade to my skintone. Love Me Pink was too baby pink for my complexion, I possibly looked like a very bad Barbie doll experiment. It also made the dry bits on my lips look abnormally even drier. I’m usually not a fan of red-brown shades so Berry Couture and Spiced Ginger would be passed on to someone.
My favourite shades:
Apple Berry, Rosewood, Raspberry Ice and Sunset Peach hands down are my favourite of the bunch. Apple Berry is pigmented than your average natural looking pink lipstick, but it’s quite flattering (lols am I complimenting myself!?) I don’t wear a lot of red lipsticks (my makeup has been quite boring and minimal now) but both Scarlet Red and Red Smoulder definitely caught my attention. I like how they’re two different shades of red (Red Smoulder being more bold and stop-sign looking,) but I could see myself wearing either of them depending what I’m doing.
The ehhh maybe I’ll wear again shades:
I really like the shade Luminous Lilac as it doesn’t come off too purple-y, but the graininess of the sparkles does not look great on my thicker lips. Haute Pink is a fun bright pink but something I’ll save for a one-off event type of party.
(sigh – really need to change the background for my photos! I cleaned up a LOT since I took these. *facepalm*)
It would be impossible to love every shade in Mary Kay Gel Semi-Shine collection, but there’s a few that are stashed in my purse as I type. The slight shine and pigmentation of the lipsticks is what I expect and the price is decent too.
Did any of these lipsticks catch your attention – and which one?
