I have to admit something….I’ve been a bit inactive lately due to the fact I was practicing for Harry Potter trivia night – which went down yesterday and ahhh….the adrenaline of answering Harry Potter questions…it was pure bliss!!
Working in downtown Vancouver, I’ve become quite the food expert around my office and downtown. Eating out everywhere is TOO easy and it’s a sin. One of the places I frequent a bit is at giovane cafe + eatery + market, a cafe that is part of Fairmont Pacific Rim and a fairly convenient place to grab a delicious bite of food. I don’t want to go in to too much detail, but I recently tweeted to Fairmont Pacific Rim regarding an order I made as something was missing. Not only did they reply back and apologized, they also invited me back for lunch. I’ve always been a fan of this cafe and hopefully people in Vancouver will be fans too!
One of my favourite grab and go things from giovane cafe is their drinks. Their lattes, mochas, and especially their matcha lattes- are absolutely delicious and a treat if you’re having a rainy/gloomy day at work. It was nice to sit down with a matcha latte and slowly enjoy it, rather than staring at my monitor and relying on match latte as a stay-awake potion. They also have the cutest latte art! What I like about their matcha lattes over other places is how not- sweet it is. I like my matcha lattes smooth and strong but with a bit of bitterness to it.
For my main course, I tried their pizza for the first time. I had the Spicy Chicken Pizza ($16)– which contains pulled chicken, capicola, pepperoncino, ricotta, and fresh basil. If you like spicy AND a lot of protein, this is the pizza to go for! I added Tabasco sauce on my pizza for an extra fiery kick. It was delicious and savoury – I was worried it would be too cheesy when I saw it but it was not the case at all! (Also if you were wondering, I did not finish the pizza in one sitting hehe, I brought it back to work.) 100% would order this again with my coworkers.
Who says dessert is only for after dinner? Though I couldn’t finish the pizza, I finished the tiramisu ($7), which was the perfect size for me. Coffee flavoured desserts are one of my weaknesses and this tiramisu has a great balance between sweetness and the bitterness of espresso. If I didn’t have a real meal before this, I could possibly eat two of these.
Clearly, I had a great lunch break enjoying pizza and tiramisu – this isn’t something I eat for lunch everyday. Luckily giovane cafe is close enough for me to go back again..and again…and again. The service is really detailed and amazing too – even before coming here for lunch I’ve always had a good impression of this cafe. If you are near Coal Harbour in Downtown Vancouver, giovane cafe is a nice stop to take a break. I’m typing this blog post before dinner and am extremely hungry now – wish I can zap myself to Italy and enjoy a nice big bowl of pasta.
