Ah, where was this ten years ago when my face was pimple-less and I just want fresh looking skin (that didn’t sound too creepy, right?) Introducing one of the most lightweight foundations I’ve tried; Make Up For Ever’s latest foundation, the Water Blend Face & Body Foundation.
The new Make Up For Ever Water Blend Foundation ($54 CAD) is a sheer foundation that adds dewiness to the skin. It isn’t a completely new product, it’s here to replace the Face & Body Foundation. There are 20 shades, which is a pretty good range, though the Ultra HD Foundation has 40 shades. Although there are less choices, I find that you might not need the exact shade (since we aren’t talking about high coverage!) In fact, two shades – Y325 and Y245 worked really well on me!
The foundation is housed inside a frosted glass bottle with a pump – no complaints there! My only worry is dropping it on the tile floor in the washroom and breaking it. I’m not sure if it’s just my bottles, but the lid doesn’t feel as secure compared to the Ultra HD Foundation – I recommend not grabbing them by the lid when carrying it around (something I do way too often!!!!!)
When I dispense the Water Blend foundation, it’s like those fruit bubbles (you can choose with your frozen yogurt) that pop into a syrup-y juice consistency or it is kind of like a thicker water droplet. Definitely shake the bottle before using!
The name ‘water blend,’ isn’t deceiving at all; the foundation is in fact made of 80% purified water and infused with pro-vitamin B5 as well as glycerine and mango butter. It’s also waterproof AND transfer-proof (feel free to hug people wearing white jackets now!) Vegetal derived oil in the formula helps the foundation to feel comfortable and prevents it from fading throughout the day.
Shade Y245 (soft sand) is slightly yellower than shade Y325 (flesh) which is more peachier, but both mix effortlessly on my skin! R210 is a good mixing shade to cover the dull part of my skin, but I’ll mostly be grabbing the other two shades.
The Water Blend Foundation did its fundamental job; give me hydrated and rejuvenated looking skin that sat comfortably on my face for a good day at work. It evened out my skintone but it won’t completely mask the imperfections (like the blemishes/red marks on my nose.)

If you don’t need heavy coverage (lucky YOU!) then Make Up For Ever’s Water Blend Foundation is pretty solid (can you see what I did there?! A liquid is solid. #GoesAndGiggleAtMyOwnJoke.) I can’t build it to cover the flaws I want it to so I rely on a thicker concealer. As I mentioned before that I’ve been experiencing heavier breakouts on my forehead, and that’s when I relied on the Ultra HD Foundation instead. The Water Blend Foundation is the lightest foundation I own, and though I have nothing to really compare it to, it does make my good skin days to better skin days.
You can find Make Up For Ever’s Water Blend Foundation online and instores at Sephora.
