If you are an Essie nail polish junkie, you have probably seen or heard of their new Essie Gel Couture polishes by now. Instead of their classic square polish bottles, Essie came up with this ergonomic design that makes holding their polishes a bit more snug.
Earlier in summer, I attended London Drug’s annual beauty event that showcases all the upcoming beauty products that would be in stores. I received two Essie Gel Couture polishes; 160 Zip Me Up (a pastel seafoam green,) and 00 Top Coat.
In the new Gel Couture polishes, not only did the packaging got a makeover, but the brush too! For this line, we get a wider brush that swirls at the stem. This prevents extra polish from building up onto the brush and you don’t have to sweep the extra goop on neck of the bottle. A LOT of my polish bottles have dried up paint at the edges because the brush collects more polish than I need.
Many polishes nowadays market that their new formula is like gel polishes; they provide high shine and long wear. Most of the time, those claims fall flat for me. Although Essie Gel Couture didn’t last the whole 14 days, it stayed on my nails for 10 days before any real noticeable chipping. A few of my nails actually didn’t show signs of chipping and if I wasn’t on the computer all day I’m sure my nail polish would’ve still looked quite pristine.
Wit the top coat, people really thought I did Shellac. I personally hate doing gel nails because I have no patience to remove the polish after…and girl got not money to get a manicure (I had quite a depressing bank meeting the other day. #SucksToBeAPoorMillenial.)
I noticed with the 00 Top Coat, the polish lasted a lot longer when used with Essie’s Gel Couture polish. I used the top coat over Ceramic Glaze polish; though my nails looked amazingly shiny, it chipped after the three day mark. Nevertheless, the top coat is one of my favourites to date since it dries quickly and pretty much brings life to my nails.

Overall; Essie Gel Couture polishes by far has been the longest lasting polish on me. Naturally something this good is obviously more expensive (~$13.99 CAD,) though I’d love to grab more, I will mostly likely re-buy the top coat. I’m quite worried that more than half my top coat is gone as I’ve been using it all summer long. (Also, wearing such a bright and pale polish is very daunting; any flaws can be easily seen!!)
