Um, working out became a bit more $$ than I anticipated. Having a good sports bra, running shoes, and some cute workout gear….that stuff adds up! I wish I had a solid workout routine to share with you, but instead I’m just going to talk about my gym basics (minus my protein bars.)
I like sport bras with good support and I have two Victoria Secret sports bras and some random sports bra I got from Hong Kong. My favourite one currently is the Incredible by Victoria’s Secret Sport Bra. (Make sure to buy them when they have a discount, regular price is too expensive!) It has breathable padding and an underwire; I always prefer wearable bras with underwire. I also like the thick straps around the bust and over the shoulders so it keeps my boobs in place. Even when I get super sweaty during my workout, the bra doesn’t feel uncomfortable and doesn’t smell bad either.
For bottoms, I have two pairs of activewear leggings from H&M, the quality for the price is very reasonable; I got a pair of purple sport leggings for $10 on sale! Some of H&M leggings also has a small zipper and I can even fit my earbuds in the pocket. I usually try to squeeze in 2-3 wears for bottoms before washing them. If you haven’t noticed, I love teal/mint colours; I also have a pair of VS sports that are pretty snug.
Shirts – I wear tank tops from H&M, Old Navy, a T-Shirt from Winners, and random graphic tees. That one peeking behind the blue shirt says “Drop It Like It’s Squat.” I definitely have enough activewear tops to last for a while and will go on a no-buy for sporty tops!
Hair ties are an absolute must, my hair is so thick and coarse that if I started doing physical activity my head looks like an octopus spreading ink everywhere. Currently I am using the Hair Slinky* , a hair tie made from Medical Grade TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane.) It doesn’t leave dents on your hair and it’s cute around the wrist too! Sometimes when I pull it out after an all-day ponytail, the Hair Slinky gets stretched out, but eventually it shrinks back down to its original size. If it gets too stretched out, you can put it in boiling water and it’ll go to its original size (I haven’t had the need to test this yet though!) There are also smaller versions that are great for half up dos.
My favourite part; shoes! I’ve had a pair of Nike Frees for a few years and they were staring to wear out at the bottom. I recently purchased a pair of the Nike Roshe Ones (I love the patterned laces!!) It has a thick sole which makes me taller and every bouncy when I’m doing some light cardio. And….this shoe is also fashionable on its own and I wear it casually for day to day outfits as well. Nothing is better than running errands with comfy shoes!
The insoles supposedly mirror a raked rocked garden; there are lines across the insole so your feet have some grip. The outsole has a waffle design which helps for traction.
So where do I cram all this sh*t?! A very simple sports duffle bag from Baggu. There aren’t internal or external pockets, but it’s very light and can pack all my gym stuff with extra room. Unfortunately, the Baggu one is sold out online, my other favourite pick would be the Herschel Sutton Duffle Bags.
So, there is nothing really special in my gym bag (*insert sweatdrop emoji.*) I am no gym expert but I have come to terms that probably no one gives any f*cks about me when I’m doing my light weights and I feel slightly more confident wearing activewear that is fashionable (to me.)
What’s in your gym bag?
