Blahh..yes I definitely feel like I’m 10000 light years behind blogging and I’m feeling as sluggish as ever because I can’t get over my post-Comic Con depression. I can’t WAIT to share my experience on my blog here. I’m almost sure I was in danger of getting a heatstroke with my costume, but even though I didn’t wear it out much, I was proud of my finished work and got some pictures taken too!
Besides that, it’s back to going through my makeup stash and sharing what new things the beauty industry did for summer. Awhile (maybe a few months, oops) ago I received a box of Mary Kay makeup that are part of their summer lineup. For summer, one would think of bright bold oranges and corals, but to me, Mary Kay focused on products that can become the foundation of a natural makeup look.
I love mini things that can fit in the palm of my hand, the Limited Edition Natural Essentials Set ($76 CAD with compact, $54 for eyeshadow bundle, $22 for the Rose Gold Compact Mini) houses six eyeshadows. The shades are fairly neutral, but you can do a nice smokey eye too. The six shades are: Sweet Cream, Spun Silk, Moonstone, Rosegold, Driftwood, and Espresso.
50% shimmery, 50% matte.
This may be a bold claim, but the matte shades are hands down, one of the most creamy and smooth formulas that I’ve swatched. If I closed my eyes and kept running my finger through the pan, I’d think I was touching food rather than eyeshadow! I personally find the shadows + compact (even if it IS a pretty rose gold colour,) the price is a bit hefty. But, you can buy the shadows on its own too if you have a way of storing them! Rosegold and Driftwood is super pretty!
The Lash Intensity Mascara ($22 CAD) comes in a chubby package. It promises to give 200% more volume and 84% longer looking lashes. The thick brush helps plump the lashes while combing through them. It also contains Pro Vitamin B5 to condition and strengthen the lashes, as well as Vitamin E, an antioxidant. My lashes look longer after using the mascara. I wouldn’t say the volume of my lashes increased by 200%, but there is more thickness to my lashes! I wish it was waterproof though, as I noticed little mascara bits on my undereye after a few hours.
My favourite products of the bunch: the Undereye Corrector ($17.50 CAD) and the Perfecting Concealer ($17.50 CAD).
The Undereye Corrector comes in one shade; a peach colour, which is for colour correcting dark shadows under the eyes. You can layer it with concealer for a refreshed undereye look! I also wore this alone and it matched my natural skin tone pretty well. It provided ample coverage and easy to blend out; on par with other creamy concealers from brands you can find at Sephora!
There are six shades of the Perfecting Concealer (dangit I photographed six!!) Love the colour selection: Light Ivory, Deep Ivory, Light Beige, Deep Beige, Light Bronze, and Deep Bronze.
The concealers have high coverage; I tried Light Ivory directly on my undereye and my imperfections were gone like; this is like the Invisibility Cloak of concealers! The formula has light diffusing technology to blur the appearance of fine lines as well. Each concealer tube has a window so you can see the colour of the product.
The Limited Edition Beauty That Counts Hearts Together Lipstick ($18 CAD) is super cute and adds a sheer, lightweight pink wash over your lips. $1 of each sale of this lipstick is donated. Mary Kay Canada is a supporter of the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation, which helps women with cancer through the Look Good Feel Better program. You can’t go wrong with a lipstick with heart imprints
I’m wearing different concealers under each eye so you can see how they look; I have Perfecting Concealer in Light Ivory on the left and the Undereye Corrector on the right. You can see that the Perfecting Concealer diminishes the line that gives me a double eye bag (holy SHIZ, right?!) I have the Beauty That Counts Hearts Together Lipstick on and am very happy it makes my lips look healthy and hydrated.
Overall; the Perfecting Concealer, Undereye Corrector, and the Beauty That Counts Hearts Together Lipstick are my favourite of the bunch with a reasonable price. The eyeshadows are pretty but if you have a decent neutral palette already, then you can take a pass on it!
