I’m practically a hermit which means that I don’t get a lot of Vitamin D (What is sun? Hiking? Is that a sport?) Not only that, I am pretty pale and I don’t tan very often even when sitting under the sun for hours. Self tanners are a fun thing to use to solve this beauty problem; I’ve been a huge fan of Jergens for many years (even before I started blogging!) and they changed their formula this year by infusing black tea with their Natural Glow moisturizer. Black tea is known to be a natural bronzer; this kind of makes sense right?! If you drink too much black tea your teeth will stain, so it can stain your teeth too if it’s a SUPER strong concoction.
Each Jergens Natural Glow product comes in two shades: Fair to Medium and Medium to Tan. They contain Erythrulose and dihydroxyacetone. Dihydroxyacetone is a common ingredient in sunless tanners; it is a sugar and causes a chemical reaction with amino acids on skin cells and darkens the skin (maillard reaction.) Erythrulose is a yellow liquid and a sugar derivative from berries (ie. raspberries) and is a yellow liquid. It works in a similar way to DHA.
Basically it works like toasting your bread; increase temperature and it turns brown.
Jergens Natural Glow 3 Days to Glow Moisturizer (~$12.99 CAD for 120mL) : If you have an upcoming vacation and no time to look tanned, the 3 Days To Glow is the answer. Although it does a good job in moisturizing the legs, don’t use it daily after a shower or you will turn orangey-brown. Jergens uses a combination of erythrulose, DHA Rapid, and DHA to create a deeper skin colour. When I used it in the morning, the floral scent lasted over a ten hour day. After one application, my legs looked a bit tinted; I put some on the top of my feet and I can see a gradient on it. The 3 Days To Glow moisturizer comes in a smaller size at 120mL; but since it’s more of a fast acting product rather than a long duration use, it makes up for the size difference?
Jergens Natural Glow +Nourish Daily Moisturizer (~$12.99 CAD for 220mL) is the one I’m more familiar with and you usually see results happening within a week. It uses black tea to tan as well as a combination of moisturizers, antioxidants, and Vitamin E to care for your skin. When you have reached a colour of tan you are satisfied with, use it every other day to retain that balance.
Jergens Natural Glow +Firming Daily Moisturizer (~$12.99 for 200mL) is very similar to the +Nourish formula (for me.) The +Firming Daily Moisturizer is targeted for those with cellulite and is said to reduce the appearance of it in as little as seven days. It contains a “Firm Perfecting Complex,” which contains six anti-cellulite ingredients, such as collagen, elastin, and ginseng. ( Not sure how the collagen would be effective though since collagen’s molecules are too big to go into the skin.) I do know, though, is that tanning reduces any imperfections – which is why I started using Jergens years ago….to reduce the appearance of my ingrown hairs *insert monkey emoji where he/she covers the mouth.*
Since it’s kind of overwhelming to decide which self tanner Jergens product is right for you, one reader will have the chance to win each type of Jergens Natural Glow moisturizer in the colour of their choice! This contest is open to Canadian residents only and will close on July 15, 2016! Fill in the Rafflecopter below and good luck!
