Ahhh kale. I just had a kale salad recently. Honestly, I thought kale was a trendy thing so companies have an excuse to charge $6 for a bag of kale chips, but it really is a healthy superfood. It contains lots of nutrients and is high in Vitamin A and C. Even my parents are all about kale. Having food in skincare is common; Nip + Fab has created a kale range for long lasting hydration.
Nip+Fab has been on my radar for a while; it is found by Maria Hatzistefanis who also created Rodial. I was pretty excited to introduce Kale Fix Moisturiser, Kale Fix Clay Mask, and Kale Fix Make-Up Removing Pads into my skincare routine.
The Kale Fix Moisturiser ($25.95 CAD) contains kale, watercress and almond oil which helps in enriching the skin with vitamins and protecting the skin from external factors that dries the skin. There is also aloe vera and shea butter to improve the texture of your skin and keep it hydrated. Hooray for the pump bottle packaging! When I first applied it, the scent smells like a cucumber salad. I started wearing it during the day, but I found the moisturiser to be too thick and it would sit on my skin and my face felt oilier. Since it has no SPF, I would have to add an additional layer of sunscreen and I am pretty sure none of us ever want to put on sunblock on a layer of oil. Hence, I switched this for night time use strictly. The only time where I find it really suitable for day time use is to cover up my small dry patches. I had some dry spots near my eyebrow from popping my zits and I put a little dab of the moisturizer and then add foundation.
Clay masks are my go to product to eliminate to be pimples (especially the mofos that feel like a bruise. I literally get headaches from pimples that are on the sides of my ear.) Nip+Fab Kale Fix Clay Mask ($15.95) contains minerals and witch hazel so it will still draw out the dirty stuff but keep your skin hydrated. I use this for around 10 minutes and after rinsing it, my skin feels softer, looks refreshed, and no tight feeling! Pretty much most of my clay masks made my skin feel dry but the Kale Fix one leaves my skin smooth; it was like rinsing off a cream.
One of my favourite aspects is the size. Since it’s 50mL, you can carry it on the plane or in your travel bag. My skin is gross after a long flight and this would be a quick and easy thing to slab on while you’re chilling in your hotel room!
Lastly, the Kale Fix Removing Pads ($15.95CAD- 60 pads per container) are not only makeup removers but they have kale and watercress extract that will reinvigorate the skin with Vitamin A, C, and K. To remove a whole face of makeup (eye makeup, foundation, blush) I used three pads. There was no sticky residue and I didn’t feel the need to rinse my face again after using these pads. These are really gentle and left my skin clean and soft. Although I like these, I don’t see myself repurchasing them because I can see me going through a container faster than buying a bottle of a micellar water from the drugstore. But if you don’t do makeup often and like to quickly remove everything then go to sleep, this is the ideal alternative.
Just because you like eating kale doesn’t mean that the Kale Fix range is for you, but if you have dry skin then go for it! All three products bring hydration; I wish the moisturizer would be good enough for daytime use but I have to admit to you guys...I put a little bit on the soles on my feet at night and homg my feet are bouncier.
