Growing up with headaches and indigestion, I really relied on essential oils and herb-y smelling things to relieve my discomfort. I was contacted by Here&Now Botanicals, an aromatherapy line based in my hometown, Vancouver! I was 100% on board; usually products made from essential oils could be quite pricey in malls and I’m always curious to try new brands to squash the pain out of my system.
I was first introduced to Here&Now Botanicals through Vancity Box and already have the Sweet Sassafras mist, which I like to use on my pillow and in the washroom. Each product is made and hand crafted in Vancouver and are free of parabens, sulfates, palm oil, petroleum, phthalates, and mineral oil .
I’ve repeated over and over on my blog that my lips are so dry; it’s like flaking tree bark. I use a variety of lip products, which means chemicals! For a lipstick junkie, having dried lips is awfully gross. I’ve been using the All Natural Lip Balm in Focus (Lemon Herbal.) When applied, it glides like skating on a Zamboni smoothed out ice rink and the texture feels like a lip oil and keeps my lips hydrated for a few hours. The taste is a bit funky but at least I’m not eating ingredients I can’t pronounce.
Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Beeswax, Calendula Ocinalis (Pot Marigold) Flower Oil, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Cocos Nucifera
(Coconut) Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Oil, Litsea Cubeba (May Chang) Oil, Coriandrum Sativum (Coriander) Oil, Ocimum Basilicum (Basil), Rosmarinus Ocinalis (Rosemary).
Jessica, the founder of Here&Now Botanicals, recommended the Hangover Aromatherapy Oil for headaches. Though my headaches are from anything but a hangover, I certainly feel terrible after lack of sleep and a long day of work. Plus, sitting behind a computer at work and at home does no justice to my neck. I’ve been rolling the Hangover Aromatherapy Oil over my temples and my wrists (and the inhaling it like a freshly baked cookie.)
I’m SO glad I did not get any itchiness when using the Hangover oil. (In the past, I’ve had roll-ons from other brands and I ended up scratching myself until I get broken blood vessels.) Best of all, the scent isn’t overpowering so my work neighbour doesn’t think he is sitting beside a perfume factory instead of a human.
Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) seed oil, Mentha piperita (Peppermint) oil, Eucalyptus globulus (Eucalyptus) oil, Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) oil, Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) oil, Betula lenta (Birch) oil, Vetiveria zizanoides (Vetiver) oil, Boswellia carterii (Frankincense) oil, Achillea millefolium (Yarrow) oil, Citrus paradisi (Grapefruit) seed extract.
Toner is a must in my skincare routine and I was thrilled that I got to try Here&Now Botanicals Toner. I usually cleanse, tone, and the moisturize. But, it is recommended to tone after you moisturize if you have dry skin to lock in the moisturizer. I usually use toners with hydrating properties as my skin has been drier than usual, but this is great for combination skin. I’ve been far too lazy to deal with my forehead breakouts and sprayed this instead as it contains tea tree oil. Using this before leaving work makes me a bit less sleepy and more refreshed.
The toner contains Witch Hazel (non-alcoholic used), Myrtle, Tea Tree and Cedarwood which carries astringent properties. This product also works great for acne prone skin since the oils are antimicrobial, antifungal, antiseptic, bactericidal, and anti-inflammatory. Another cool tip is spraying it on the hair to control the oil. I tried this on my second day bangs and it felt refreshing and cooling. OH, and this is also a natural bug repellent due to the Cedarwood and Lavender. Um- yes please; I don’t do well with spiders, mosquitoes, flies… this would be a great camping buddy.
Hamamelis Virginiana(plant derived Witch Hazel), Myrtus communis (Myrtle) Oil, Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree) Oil, Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Juniperus virginiana (Cedarwood) Oil, Eugenia caryophyllata (Clove Bud) Oil.
If I was Professor Snape, I’d give Here&Now Botanicals an O for Outstanding! I mentioned to Jessica about having an oil for digestion and she is actually working on a digestive blend, which I’m pretty excited about. It’s a lot less embarrassing to smell like aromatherapy oils than my Asian white chrysanthemum oil *ahem*. I highly recommend checking out her website; everything is beautiful and there is a bathroom mist which I’m sure we wouldn’t mind keeping in our purses for those emergency moments. You know you’ve been guilty!
