If you ‘google’ coconut oil you will definitely end up with a bunch of lists telling you why coconut oil is awesome. The only thing I can think of wrong of a coconut is maybe getting hit by one in the head or cracking one and the water explodes everywhere (been there, done that.) Sometimes when a product like coconut oil is mentioned everywhere, I don’t end up purchasing it since there’s so many brands in different markets and they come in a GIANT container. When I kindly received a sample from Skinny & Co. Coconut Oil, I was excited to finally get my fingers greasy with coconut oil.
Skinny & Co. uses zero heat to extract oil from the coconut and their patent-pending Nutralock System™ makes the only raw and alkaline coconut oil that can be found in the market today. The coconuts are harvested from jungles in Vietnam and all the coconuts’ nutrients does not get extracted due to their closed-loop, dehumidifying Nutralock System™. 10% of proceeds also goes back to Vietnam to build schools, teach English, and fund year-round farming. This is part of their #changetheworld movement. Additionally, all the jars are recycled and donated to artists, gardeners; I myself love cute little jars like these and will for sure use them for some crafty purposes after I use up my coconut oil!
That is Skinny & Co. in a nutshell coco-nutshell.
Upon opening the jar of Skinny & Co. Coconut Oil ($15 for 2oz), the delicious scent of a raw coconut hit me and I LOVE it. Reminds me of coconut ice cream, which is one of my favourite flavours. And coconut hot chocolate. Or drinking out of a coconut after eating hot pot.
When I first heard of coconut oil years ago, I thought it was a liquid form and never knew it was a pile of not completely solid, not completely liquid white stuff. It feels very smooth when I dip my fingers in it and if I take out a chunk it beings to melt into oil. The scent does linger on the skin for a while but it’s like crack to me! So what can you use this for…
I’ve mainly been using this as a lip balm, body moisturizer for my legs, makeup remover, and sealing the ends of my hair. As a lip balm, it makes my lips subtle and melts the flakes away. It can also be made into a scrub if I sprinkle some sugar in it! It is also amazing in removing makeup and I feel a lot better when I’m using this over my eyelashes and I’m hoping they might grow healthier after using coconut oil. My body is really dry and even body butter doesn’t cut it during winter. I like using the coconut oil to add an extra layer of moisture on my legs. The ends of my hair are the naughty bits of my head that looks like black straw, I’ve been using coconut oil to make the ends shinier and healthier.
You can also eat a spoonful of it, put it in coffee or tea, throw it in a smoothie, or replace your butter! I do enjoy a heavy coconut taste but I prefer eating coconut meat or food infused with coconut meat instead. Another method of using coconut is oil pulling where you swish oil in your mouth for 5-20 minutes for fresher breather and a whiter smile.
Overall, I am enjoying the uses of coconut oil and the Skinny & Co. Coconut Oil is a decadent multi purpose product. I just hope I don’t end up licking my lips clean of it while using it as a lip balm! $15 is a bit more expensive than other coconut oils, but I appreciate how this is a small jar that I’ll a) use up quicker and b) other people apart from the company is benefiting from the sales.
