Always keeping up with trends is tiring and costly; which is why sometimes I just keep around the basics- black and grey accessories, sweaters, boots..etc. Minimalism is a fun word to roll off my tongue but definitely not the lifestyle I currently am living, but I do plan to have a day where I just throw out things. My room is a mess. In contrast to all my clutter, the classic NATO watch from Classic Engineering stands out as a simple, sleek accessory with the luxury feel. The Classic Engineering watch collection was launched before Christmas and Canada Post took a lot longer than expected to deliver this, but it was 100% worth the wait; look at this classic beauty!
Classic Engineering is found by Eduardo Umaña. He attended college at Swarthmore College and received a Bachelor of Science in engineering. He started his design during his sophomore year, and by the time he was a senior, he engineered and created the classic NATO watch which he sold to friends and family.
Coming from an Electrical Engineering background myself, I can tell you that in my last year in university I have only made a robot that didn’t really work, and I’ve always been in awe how engineering students have the time to invent such amazing things on the side or can think of really brilliant things. For example, my friend, Matthew Lai, had a phone call with THE Elon Musk (cofounder of Paypal, Tesla, and a bunch of other brilliant things.) My worries are what I’m going to have for lunch tomorrow.
TL;DR: To see that Classic Engineering is found and created by an engineer gives me hope that one day I can do something really awesome too!
Quality pieces are assembled to make the NATO watch. It has Swiss Ronda Quartz Movement, the leather is sourced from vegetable tanned, full-grain sourced from Tuscany and the strap is handmade in Amsterdam. (I wish I had the European travel experience like this watch!) The scratch resistant ceramic treated case is made in the United States and the exterior is finished with Sapphire Crystal and has an Anti-Reflective Coating. The NATO watch comes in gold, black, and silver and the straps comes in black, chianti (wine red shade), and natural (camelshade).
The classic NATO is nothing short of amazing and I’m in awe of the entrepreneurial route that many engineers go for. I’ve been wearing this watch with pretty much all my outfits; as it’s simplistic design makes it easy to complement anything. You might be wondering if it’s a little hard to read the time; ok yes reading an analog clock is not fast feat for me, my trick is to just look at the minute hand anyway, I generally have a good idea what hour it is!
