Cushion compacts are a new craze in the foundation world and yay, I finally tried my first one. The Amore Pacific Color Control Cushion Compact ($72 CAD) is no chump change but it packs a lot of goodness in case you have dry skin and want to get your foundation routine down as fast as possible.
I’ve been interested in Amore Pacific for a while, as I enjoy one of the brands they own- Laneige. However the price tag of Amore Pacific products always scared me away so when I was asked if I wanted to try the Cushion Compact, I was more than happy to wear this everyday going to work for trial purposes.
The Amore Pacific Color Control Cushion Compact is housed in silver container and closes with a *click* so you know it’s sealed tight and won’t come back to a dried up foundation. There is a 15mL foundation cushion inside the compact, and you get an additional 15mL to refill. The cushion compact aims and succeeds to be luxurious; it contains Bamboo sap rather than water to provide hydration without a greasy feeling. The patented formula also fills in micro lines and builds into delicate layers. It also contains green tea to give you skin brightening and irritation prevention. And if you’re worried about washing the puff too soon; it is non-absorving and anti microbial. I’ve used it a for a week before feeling anxious about how clean it was, but my skin hasn’t broken out or anything.
The shade I received was 104 for light/medium shades with a pink undertone. When I first swatched it, I was scared it was too orange for me but it matched perfectly with my skintone. The other colours for pink undertones are 102 (Light,) and 106 (Medium.) For Yellow undertones, there are two shades; 204(Light/Medium) and 208 (Medium.)
I used the puff it came with to apply the foundation; the routine took about 30 seconds as I didn’t have to keep blending it out- patting the puff around my face evened out the foundation pretty fast, leaving no streaks or cakiness. It left my skin looking dewy, and fresh- which is normally how I like my foundation and was impressed by how it turned out. I noticed that during the first few minutes of application and at mid-end of the day, the foundation doesn’t feel as weightless as I wanted and I sort of felt a ‘film’ on my face. I found that using a primer (especially on my nose!) or the Bioderma Sebium Pore Refiner helped with the oily nose problem.
On the other hand, my cheeks which are normally dry, felt hydrated fine throughout a 12 hour wear. The Amore Pacific Color Control Cushion Compact did a REALLY good job in minimizing the redness around my nose, but for the bigger zits, it lightened it slightly.

Despite the oil buildup on my nose, I loved the finish of the foundation and just how fast I can do my makeup with it. It may not feel invisible, but it sure looks like that when I’m wearing it. The biggest downside is probably the price of $72, which is the most expensive foundation I’ve tried to date, but you get medium coverage, a natural finish, and a product with great skincare benefits. Have you tried any cushion compact foundations before?
