Forget about hauling the expensive Christmas gift sets- the drugstores have been stocking on some good ones too! Many, many years ago I bought my first Burt’s Bees product and it was actually a Christmas gift set that was on sale after the holiday season. Burt’s Bees have some cute and wallet-friendly stocking stuffers to keep lips or body moisturized during the harsh winter (it’s already freezing cold to me in 9°C weather!)

Burt’s Bees are known for their use of beeswax and 99% natural ingredient in their products. The Hive Favourites ($5.49) set include a travel sized Milk & Honey Body Lotion and the Beeswax Lip Balm. I have tried both products before from their Honeymoon Suite Gift Set; I love the scent of the lotion…reminds me of putting honey in a latte. The regular beeswax lip balm I find them a bit too waxy for my liking and since I’ve seen that before…naturally the Kissable Color gift set ($9.99) definitely took over me (I gravitate toward colour!)
The Kissable Color gift set comes with three of their Lip Shimmers that are enriched with sunflower oils and leaves a cooling sensation of peppermint on the lips. When I swatched them I didn’t know they were called Lip Shimmers, as I assumed they were tinted lip balms- and they do a very good job of tinting the lips with a decent staying power.
- Rhubarb is a dark reddish pink colour
- Peony is a metallic pink-brown colour
- Fig is a nude pink shade that makes a great “my lips but better” colour
Peony is a bit too frosty for my liking but Rhubarb and Fig leaves a pretty tint and sheen on my dry chappy lips! One problem I noticed though is when I twist too much of the stick, I can’t twist it down! I was playing around with them so now they’re kind of dirty due to a bit of lip balm smushing. The Lip Shimmers are so easy to wear; don’t need a mirror and just swipe while on the skytrain like a boss. For the days where I don’t want to go overboard with lipstick, this is my pick of the crop!

As you can see in the above photo…I kind of already mutilated the Lip Shimmers and I didn’t want to twist them up for a photo and then be unable to cap them. I don’t even know how I made a lipstick cavity in fig, but I did. So unless I got a weird batch or have abnormally weak strength, avoid twisting them up at all costs!! Despite that, these lip shimmers DO look really great on.

Overall, these are solid little gifts that any female (or male!) who loves lip balm would appreciate. The Lip Shimmers from the Kissable Color set is by far my favourite as they’re inexpensive and does a really good job in colouring my lips and provide hydration (just the packaging was a wee bit disappointing!) As a frequent lipstick/gloss etc wearer, I know I’m putting a lot of chemicals on my lips so something soothing and healthy like Burt’s Bees is the alternative I need (not that I’ll be dropping my YSL lippies anytime soon!)
Anyone else who loves shopping for holiday sets at the drugstore? I bought a few from Target last year….before they shut down.
