Last month was the first launch of the Vancity Box, a subscription box to support our local BC companies and brands. October’s month was pretty much devoured by now and when I opened this month’s box I was squealing at the products inside. Mind you, I feel like this box is SLIGHTLY geared for females (unless you’re a gent who likes fruity candles and knitted sweaters for coffees,) otherwise, this is an awesome present for yourself or a friend.
The first thing my eyes were drawn to when I opened the box was the Deco Umbrella and THAT coffee cup sweater (aka mug hug) for all the coffees I’m going to drink! (By the way guys, sorry about the not so great lighting, usually so dark when I get home from work and quite busy on weekends…will seriously be looking into getting some legit lights!!)
For anyone living in this city, having an umbrella or even multiple umbrellas is essential or our existence. These Deco Umbrellas are stored inside a bottle (neat, eh!) , though once the umbrella is out you’ll need a lot of patience putting it back in. I love how Vancity Box had a product with their logo for each box so far; last month’s box had a tote bag and this month is an umbrella!
There are THREE scent-y things in this month’s box- first being the Vancouver Candle Co. candle that is handmade in Vancouver and each name of the candle is inspired by Vancouver neighborhoods. The Fairview candle ($35 for 10.9 oz) has notes of grapefruit, peach, and red currant. This is going to make the smelliest of room become a delicious juicy fruit land!
Next here, I got the Here & Now Botanicals Sweet Sassafras Aromatherapy Spray ($15). It has a very relaxing fragrance, one I would spritz on my pillow before I sleep. I have always enjoyed aromatherapy products but always found the brands in all the big malls too expensive and I love getting the local products when I go to craft and art shows! I have already been oogling at Here & Now’s sites as they also have rollerballs for muscle pains (and even hangovers, though not like I ever get any CAUSE I don’t drink….not because I’m an iron woman.)
Dilettante & Debutantes ($22)is run via Etsy and I have huge amount of respect for those etsy owners because I have neglected my own Etsy shop. I received the Lavender Vanilla Sugar Scrub, which is handmade in Vancouver as well. This scrub is full of perfect goodness- Coconut oil, Fair Trade Sugar, Shea Butter, Mango Butter, Aloe Butter, Epsom Salt, Vitamin E, Dried Lavender, and fragrance. My skin is like tree bark lately so this came at a perfect timing!
Last but not least….my absolute favourite item is the mug hug ($6.81) from another etsy shop,Hooked on Crochet. A sweater for my my morning/afternoon/evening hot drinks? Yes please! Especially love how there’s a ‘W’ on this one! For every coffee/tea/latte drink, this is an awesome gift! (It’s so hard to not be excited for food/beverage accessories.)

This box has such good value (the candle pretty much pays for itself) and dare I say it….I love it more than a beauty box! As a crafter myself, I love receiving these handmade treats from other locals, I have always considered selling at a craft show one day, as I took a break from vendoring at Anime Revolution!
The VancityBox retails for $34.99; for a 3 month plan each box is $31/month, and for a 12 month plan, the box is $27/month. There is also a $5 flat shipping fee. Until Nov 19, receive $5 off with the code MACARONSNMISCHIEF.
