Hmm, when was the last time I reviewed an Asian beauty brand on here? TOO LONG AGO! DHC (which stands for Daigaku Honyaku Center) is a Japanese brand and when I was in Asia in June, I actually saw a few DHC stores so I was pretty excited when DHC contacted me to try some of their products, including their signature Deep Cleansing Oil which I read many great reviews about. AND, these products are easily acquired for us Canadians, either via Amazon.ca or T&T (I’m so impressed with T&T nowadays! Yummy food and awesome beauty products!)
DHC Olive Body Butter
As a walking tree bark I am always welcome body butters. I use a lot of The Body Shop body butters, so trying a different brand gets my blood running of excitement. I usually don’t wear body butters as often during summer because it feels heavy when I get sweaty, but I found DHC Olive Body Butter ($18.05 on Amazon.com) to be surprisingly light!
It contains shea butter, cocoa butter, olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, squalane and argan oil and I feel my body feeling super moisturized after applying it. There is also a very evident apple scent which I LOVE. Extra points for the cute packaging!
DHC Velvet Skin Coat
I’m very lazy with the primer + foundation routine, and since I go to work pretty much makeup free, I look like a gnome a lot. One thing I am most annoyed about is the amount of oil my nose makes during the middle of the day, and looking at that shiny, slick reflection on my finger after touching my nose….it’s gross yet I’m like ooo let’s see how much oil I can get. Time to stop!
I’ve been using the Velvet Skin Coat alone on my face, just after my moisturizer. Not going to lie, the primer is mainly comprised of silicones and olive oil is the second last ingredient on the list. But my skin loves it; the shine is gone and my pores look smaller after applying this. Oil control? MUCH better. The small tube makes it handy to carry around my purse and I can just run into the washroom and do a touch up. It IS kind of pricey though- $29.50 on Amazon.ca (but $18.99 on Amazon.com- ohhh import fees.) It is comparable to many primers you find at Sephora though!
DHC Olive Virgin Oil
I’ve been using oils more in my routine now- hair, body, and face! DHC Olive Virgin Oil ($54CAD on Amazon.CA and $39.90 on Amazon.com) product is 100% olive oil. I had some major dry patches around my nose and this cured my flakiness. My skin was very smooth and dewy when I used this at night. If you want an extra burst of moisture, you can mix it with your moisturizer, which is what I do a lot when I use facial oils.
I don’t have any complaints about this, except for the price. For a facial oil that is only made of olive oil, it’s not cheap. (It can’t be helped since it’s an Asian beauty brand in Canada, I guess? 🙁 ) But I only need around 2-3 drops so this is going to last long!
DHC Deep Cleansing Oil
Last but not least, the well known DHC Deep Cleansing Oil ($26.50 on Amazon.ca and $24.95 on Amazon.com). If you have the full makeup, this guy will dissolve it all off and leave the skin feeling soft and supple. I think many people find oil cleansers to be intimidating, but they are very efficient in thoroughly cleansing the skin.
Overall- I have a good impression with DHC skincare. They are a bit pricey since they are Asian products, but that’s no different than Shu Uemura or Shiseido. My favourites out of the bunch is probably the Virgin Olive Oil as a moisturizer and the Deep Cleansing Oil. My skin looks more radiant to me (though not sure what other people might see,) but as long as it makes me feel more confident to get through the day! 🙂
Have a great weekend!
