After watching Zoella’s video on her monthly favourites where she included the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara, I was intrigued because I’d be crazzzy to not want to have eyes that look like her’s. I have to be honest, even as a ‘beauty blogger,’ I’m not very knowledgeable in mascara and how to pick out every detail of their wands, so the ‘fanning brush’ with 10 layers of bristles didn’t unfaze me but I was interested to know what the new liquid formula with black pearls was about.
First off, I think most of us can agree the packaging is great with the black and rose gold-ish colour scheme. The formula of the mascara is liquid to coat all sides of the lashes. Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara’s wand is curved like the contour of your eye. There are 10 layers of the bristles; short bristles are used for the roots and the longer bristles are for everything else.
I used two coats on one of my eyes below and you can see there is a difference in my lashes being extended and separated. However, in my second picture below, you can see that one of my eyes with the mascara got clumpy and NOT separated…looks like some dead bug legs *SHUDDERS*. I had to play around with my brush some more to get my mascara on right. As it is a liquid formula, it needs some drying time so this isn’t something I would use before I got to work. I did get tiny flecks of mascara smudges (nothing too big to cry over) after a few hours, so that part was a bit of a letdown. :/

Overall….I wish I got a bit more volume out of Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara but the lengthening was there. I do want to try layering this mascara with another to prevent smudges, as I see that some posts with people combining mascaras; it’ll be a new science experiment to see which combo works best for my straight lashes that gets crushed by my hooded eyelids a lot! Of course it would be ideal to have a mascara that didn’t smudge but I will search for a way to use it up; the separation of my lashes is something I really like about it!
