You read right, today’s Munchy Monday is about a teatox…and you might be thinking, really Whitney?! Don’t you drink an unhealthy amount of lattes and junk food? Yup, and still am IN conjunction with testing out this Purgo Tea 14 Day Teatox (currently $29.99). Coming from someone who used to take antibiotics for H.Pylori (don’t EVER get it!)I still get stomache aches/bloating as easy as snapping my fingers, so I was interested to see how this fare in making me feel all around better.
The 14 Day Teatox consists of two components- a Morning Detox tea and an Evening Cleanse tea. The Morning Teatox is to be drunk before breakfast for two weeks in a row and the Evening Cleanse is to be drunk at night, every other day. I am totally against giving up my food to do juice cleanses and whatnot, so a tea cleanse where you can still eat your meals holds some curiosity. Honestly, unless my doctor specifically writes it on out in black and white, you won’t see Whitney on an all liquid diet or any form of cleanse. I’m terrible I know- that’s why I just started dance fitness classes and love it!
The Morning Teatox contains: Sencha, Dandelion, Lemon Grass, Goji Berry, Hibiscus, Chamomile Flower, Acai Powder, and Ginseng Root. This blend is to help “helps to boost your metabolism. This burns calories and gives you sustained energy through the day.” I am no stranger to super herbal teas ( Asians grow up drinking those black Chinese medicine with random tree bark and whatnot so this is nothing) so I find the Morning Teatox to have a herbal and a light earthy taste plus a hint of sweetness from goji berries. I predict a majority may not like this though but you can definitely use a sweetener (like agave syrup) with it.
Since I work 9-5 and I have to commute to work, waking up a bit earlier in the morning and juggling around to steep the tea and drink it was a bit of a hassle- I almost found it a chore to prep it (#firstworldproblems.) As I know that I don’t get enough sleep, not the greatest amount of tea can really give me that boost of sustained energy; not even coffee- it just gives me a boost for a few hours. So I didn’t feel extra awake and yes, I did buy my latte during midday at work.
The Evening Cleans contains: Locust Plant, Sencha, Key Lime, Lotus Leaf, Cassia Seed, Pu’erh, Oolong, and Chamomile Flower. It “works with your digestive tract to help remove toxins and purge impurities leaving you in a more balanced state.” Media LOVES throwing around the word “toxins” these days to scare ya, but that’s what our livers are for! I don’t buy into the toxin thing, but I was interested in the digestion part since my digestive system is probably not at its A game.
The Evening Cleanse has a stronger herbal scent (again, I don’t mind and enjoy it) but I was a bit worried about the caffeine coming from Pu’erh and oolong especially if I’m drinking this before I go to bed. Luckily, it didn’t really mess my sleeping schedule; (so far only milk tea and HK lemon tea can keep me awake till 2 am.)
Overall…I didn’t feel extra energized, but I did find I felt less bloated (which is more important for me); usually I’d swell up like a balloon when I have my milk caffeinated drinks and greasy food, but my stomache/gas pains were kept to a minimum; pretty happy about that. I also liked the flavour of the tea itself. If you want to start a healthy lifestyle but not fully into eating veggies/no carbs (WHAT DO HEALTHY PEOPLE EAT?!) and don’t like working out, the Purgo Tea Teatox is a good starting point but itt should be used in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle and it requires commitment. Although it didn’t work 100% for me, I think it largely depends on your personal lifestyle and body type!
Tea- would you prefer it to use as a regular drink or to improve health???
