I’m sure many are familiar with the drugstore brand, Burt’s Bees, but you may not know that the founder, Burt Shavitz recently passed away and we can agree he left a legacy; his brand Burt’s Bees is undeniably well known and although sometimes I find that the product may not work best for me, it’s natural ingredients and being cruelty free is something to commend for. Plus, if you’re a Burt’s Bees fan and a bee fan, the Honeymoon Suite gift set ($14.99 CAD) contains some well-rounded products and all profits will go towards Pollinator Partnership Canada.
Pollinator Partnership Canada and Sustainable. TO Architecture + Building are national partners for the “WILD FOR BEES” partnership. WILD FOR BEES began in 2014 and focuses on installing bee hotels across Canada. Sustainable. TO focused on the design and construction of the bee hotels and Pollinator Partnership Canada were consultants on pollinator health.
Burt’s Bees has partnered with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts to install 16 bee hotels; which makes the total number of bee hotels to be 21. I had no idea what a bee hotel was, but it’s a simple wooden house with openings that are 20 cm deep, and an opening of 3mm to 1cm. These attract solitary bees, which are different from your regular honey bee, as solitary bees are like a “parent,” and mainly focus on gathering food, taking care of their eggs, and pollinating flowers. Solitary bees do not have hives nor do they work for a queen.

Apart from the lip balms and cuticle cream, I haven’t tried any other products from Burt’s Bees so this is a neat kit to sample the skincare stuff Burt’s Bees has to offer while helping out for a good cause. We all love honey, yes, I think maintaining the bee population is super important in the ecosystem, (we all watched Bee Movie by Dreamworks, right?!).
