Though I love all things Canadian (Canucks, double double,) I really am not too familiar with many Canadian brands as our cosmetics market is saturated with American and European brands. SST Cosmetics, launched in 2007 and based in Saskatchewan, delivers mineral based cosmetics that are paraben free and talc free. It was nice to try something that’s not mainstream AND that’s good for the skin.
Within the SST Cosmetics categories, one of them is the “Black Label” series- where those products are “specifically formulated with super antioxidants and skin loving ingredients to promote youthful, healthy skin.” One of the Black Label products is the Skin Perfecting Balm.
SST Cosmetics Skin Perfecting Balm ($47.94) is a weightless primer (it’s said to be “his and hers” so I guess men could use it too!) and it sort of resembles like solid oil in a pan. It is blended with Vitamin A, C and Tea Tree oil, so this primer will help your skin imperfections as well as providing your face with a boost of anti-oxidants. It comes with a circular foam pad to pat with your face, but I preferred using my fingers to get a more even application, however, got to make sure those hands are clean! There is definitely a noticeable tea tree scent when I opened the tin, but it dissipates in 10 seconds after I applied it on the face.
Though the primer didn’t do much in filling in my pores and in oil control, it made my skin look more matte, smoothing, and it was easier to blend in foundation on my face. I suffer breakouts on my forehead mostly, and this little baby would be a perfect base for my foundation/concealer. I usually blot tea tree oil on upcoming and present zits before I go to bed, and having a product WITH tea tree oil is kind of like a multi-purpose product for me. Oh, and you can totally share this with your man if he needs some aftershave or whatnot!
From the #FACETIME Collection, we got the Hydrating Lipstick ($23.94) that contains grapeseed oil, cocoa butter, and Vitamin E. I think that a lot of the lipsticks nowadays are pretty competitive, as companies are upping their moisturization (I know that’s not a word…) game. What I like about this one is that it has a matte finish yet it keeps my lips from feeling dry. And one swipe you get a POW IN YOUR FACE colour. Drama Queen is a rose pink colour, but somehow it looks a tad bit too light on me when I wear it, is it too Barbie like on me??
The Hydrating lipstick packaging is not as luxurious as other lipsticks around this price; it has a matte plastic case, though it makes the lipstick feel very light in your hands (and in your makeup bag too!) Also, there is a vanilla scent to it, which could be a yay or nay, depending on your preference (I don’t mind either way.)
I think that SST Cosmetics will be a force to reckon with in the Canadian market, especially since people are more conscious about what we put on our faces. Are you familiar with this SST Cosmetics- what’s your favourite home-country brand?
