I have to admit I’m jealous of those girls with hairless, glowing legs that blind me during the summer time. I’ve been on the hunt for a good body scrub for a long time (I was even desperate one time and used The Body Shop Tea Tree Facial Scrub on my legs before,) and recently, I had the opportunity to try out Jealous Body Scrub, a company based in my hometown Vancouver. And for the first time, getting “Jealous” feels goooood.
This isn’t the first coffee based scrub featured on my blog before; so I’m guessing that coffee scrubs will have a nice slot in the beauty trend soon! Jealous Body Scrub ($17.95) is the first product of made by the company and have been featured in Elle Magazine, Vitamin Daily, and other blogs. Plus, it’s made in Vancouver too!
You all know that I LOVE my coffee (especially with sugar, whipped cream and topped with latte art 😉 ) so I was quite interested to start using the all natural coffee and coconut scrub in my shower. The ingredients are simple- coffee, cold pressed coconut oil, raw brown sugar, sea salt, and Vitamin E.
- Coffee not only exfoliates, but it also stimulates blood circulation to help with cellulite. It can also diminish the appearance of bumps as it draws water out of cells.
- Cold Pressed Coconut Oil have anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial properties, not to mention it’s a great natural moisturizer.
- Sea salt not only exfoliates, but also “balances acid levels in your body, and absorbs toxins from your skin.”
- Raw sugar is another natural exfoliator that also balance the oil on the skin and keeps it moisturized.
Because all the ingredients are natural, it is recommended to use the scrub within 6 months after opening. (I’ve smelt expired coffee before, it aint pretty.) With the amount I use on both arms and legs, I’m certain I will finish this way before the 6 month mark.
At first I was worried about the bitter, ashy smell when I opened the bag, but the aroma was quite pleasant- I have a suspicion that coconut oil tones down the natural scent of the coffee grinds. Coffee grinds can get QUITE messy in the shower- I’m not sure if it is because the packaged got flattened throughout the mail, but I like how the scrub was in chunks, which made it easier to grab and spread around the skin.
To achieve that desired smoothness, patience is necessary. Jealous Body Scrub works the best when you leave it on your skin for 5-10 minutes after scrubbing. It’s kind of hard to do that when you’re in a shower, but in a bath…So.Much.Better (plus lying in a bath of coffee….it’s like swimming in my personal Starbucks!)
As I’m still young-ish, I can’t notice if the body scrub did anything to non existing (or invisibly existing) stretch marks, cellulite…etc, but what I do feel is how baby soft my skin is when I’m out of the tub. I could also feel a bit of a slick on the areas where I exfoliated; my skin feels not only soft, but moisturized. The scrub can also be used on the face since it is made with all natural ingredients, however, I find that it’s a bit gritty and it does leave a light coffee smell, so I would use this on the body only.
It’s amazing how many things you can use to make an exfoliator. Soon someone will be selling bottles of sand mixed with something and it could be the next big hit. With the combination of coffee and cococnut, I am enamoured with this scrub and Jealous Body Scrub lives up to its name. Hopefully I’ll have summer ready legs to make myself jealous.
What’s your to go, fool proof, tried and tested body scrub? I have another 4-5 scrubs sitting under my bathroom sink, a roundup of body scrubs needs to happen soon on here!
