Even with my occasional frivolous lipstick spending, I’m still on the hunt for a long wearing, moisturizing lipstick. The new L’Oreal Infallible 2 Step Lipcolour. These were launched in January and boast to have 24 hours of wear and deliver intense pigmentation…is it too good to be true?

Last December, bloggers and media were invited to attend a L’Oreal Paris event, and the official makeup artist for L’Oreal, Eddie Malter, was present as well. L’Oreal Paris introduced some new products that were going to be launched in January 2015. These products included the Pro-Matte Foundation, Pro-Matte Powder, Infallible 2-Step Nailcolour, Black Angel Miss Manga Mascara, and of course, the Infallible 2-Step Lipcolour.
The L’oreal Infallible 2-Step Lipcolour is a dual ended lip product; one side contains a pigmented shade, similar to a velvety lacquer, and the other end is a lip balm. To use this product, the coloured side is applied first, and after it dries, the lip balm is used to seal the colour in. The coloured side has a doe foot applicator, and one swipe gives a generous helping of colour. It dries into a sticky-ish, matte texture. The four colours featured below are:
- 207 Perpetual Apricot: dark peach with shimmer
- 215 Raisin Revival -dark plum with no shimmer
- 113 Flamboyant Flamingo– pink with shimmers
- 211 Red Infallible– a true red with no shimmer
It was a bit tricky to apply the colour on at first. The lips have to be dry (does not work when applying over lip balm, which is what I sometimes do with lipsticks,) and swipe over the lip. If the colour isn’t evened out (because big lips, yup;)I add another swipe, rather than smacking my lips together, as it causes the product to stick and leave patches. I recommend making the D: face while applying.

After a minute, I felt the colour drying into a sticky texture and it appeared matte. In comes step two, lip balm. My first thought…with a colour that pigmented, the lip balm will definitely get stained, but NOPE. Zero transfer. First of its kind. Mother of Lipsticks. Queen of colour. (Sorry, really excited for Game of Thrones after watching the new trailer.)
Kissed my hand, no transfer. Drank a cup of water, no transfer. Had a coffee, indulged in a mango dessert, and the lip colour was intact! The balm took away the stickiness of the lipstick and added shine. I did have to reapply the balm more often, as I naturally have dry lips right now, so my concern is that I would run out of balm before colour. #FirstWorldBeautyProblems

Needless to say, I was impressed that the lip colour stayed for a considerably longer time on my lips, though not 24 hours. After 4 hours or so, I noticed a bit of flaking and patchiness, but most of the colour remains. This is definitely a product worthy for long events and important occasions. The downside is that if I wanted to switch my lip colour, I needed to really scrub it off with potent removers. At first I tried a cleansing wipe and it barely smudged, so I had to use some Micellar water solution and vaseline to eventually rid of the colour; and my lips felt quite worn out after it. Infallible 2-Step Lipcolour is here to stay on the lips, but expect to wear that one colour for the whole day.
The suggested retail price for L’Oreal Infallible 2-Step Lipcolours are around $13.99 each, and you can find them in drugstores such as Shoppers Drug Mart or London Drugs. If you want to see me wearing the other colours, let me know which one you like and I’ll incorporate it into a future makeup look on my blog! Do you like extremely long wearing lipsticks that don’t budge, or do you like to switch around with different colours?
