There are moments when we want what we can’t have, and that for me is wavy locks.I love curling my hair before going out, though it is a hassle and time consuming process in getting evenly curled hair and trying not to burn the skin off my fingers. The Kiss InstaWave-Automatic Curler is a new hair styling gadget that may solve some general problems I face in hair curling. Let’s see if it does…
The Kiss InstaWave-Automatic Curler is an automatic tangle-free curler which just requires you to push a button to create curls. Because it requires a touch of a button, it is quite easy to use at any angle so your arms won’t be flailing around to hold down the hair and whatnot. There is a curl dial that can curl the hair left or right, and you don’t have to use your hands to wrap around the barrel. To control the direction of the curl dial, I press either the left or right arrow on the round button above the heat setting. Two heat settings are present, with a low/high switch; the maximum temperature is 420F. A safety feature is also built into the InstaWave; it will auto shut off after 90 minutes.
After I plug the power in and turn the setting to low/high ( I always use high,) I wait around 30 seconds until the power indicator light turns blue. The device does emit a low humming sound.
The instructions:
1) Hold the InstaWave parallel along a section of hair (approximately 1-2 inches.)
2) Press the button to rotate the curl barrel in the direction you want. The curl dial will automatically spin your hair around the barrow, and the prongs sticking out will hold the hair in placr.
3) Continue holding onto the button until the hair is fully around the barrel. Hold it for around 3-10 seconds (depending on how tight you want the curls.)
4) Guide the InstaWave straight down to release curled hair.

I think it’s a good beginner product and provides hassle free tangling, but it’s a bit harder to use and it’s more suited for loose curls, especially if you have thick hair. When I first tried it, I held the barrel in my hair for around 5 seconds and my the waves were so loose, the hair straightened itself after a few hours. The low heat setting didn’t work at all on me. The second time I tried it, I used the high heat setting and held the barrel in my hair for 10 seconds and I achieved much better curls.
For my thick hair, I find that the Kiss InstaWave doesn’t give me the tight curls I wanted but it works better in creating loose, wavy, and natural looking curls. I usually use a hair straightener to curl my hair, which I find is faster process and I can get tighter curls. With a bit of hairspray, the curls created with the KISS InstaWave lasted for the whole day, and I liked how it toned down throughout the day.
More information is on the KISS InstaWave website and it will be available in Canada Walmart for $62.96 CAD and US Target, Ulta, and Amazonfor $59.99 USD.
What type of tool do you use to curl your hair – automatic curler, a curling wand, curler, straightener.. or heatless ways?
(By the way, sorry for the inconsistent lighting! I need to figure out some lighting system setup in my room!)
