I’m back from my anime convention and happy to have allll the time to blog now! Several weeks ago I went to an event hosted by Make Up For Ever where we got the first look at the launch of the new Artist Shadows for Fall 2014. The Make Up For Ever Artist Shadows have a range of more than 200 colours to satisfy alllll your eye shadow needs. Let’s see which three colours I picked up!
Make Up For Ever makes memorable beauty products that are probably seen as game changers in the beauty world. Their Aqua Cream and the HD Foundation are some of my MUFE favourites in my collection. This is MUFE’s 30th anniversary, and to celebrate, they released the new Artist Shadow Collection which has 210 shades and 5 different finishes.
The event was held at Vancouver Community College Salon & Spa in Downtown Vancouver. I was amazed that the school had a room for hair cut/styling training and other rooms catered to beauty. When I arrived, we were sat down to make our own “mood board.” The mood board is an assortment of bits and pieces that you stick together based on your feelings and inspiration. I’ve been into floral scents and patterns lately, so I folded a rose using ribbon and a pipe cleaner. Then, I used MUFE blushes to draw out some macarons, because I’m always inspired by the colours of macarons.
Followed after by our mood board design, a Make Up Fore Ever specialist takes the colours of your picture and they will customize a palette of three Artist Shadow shades. We could swatch the chosen ones and change them around if we liked. It gets a bit intimating when all of the shadows are laid out in front of you, the heart will sometimes end up choosing colours that aren’t part of your mood board.
What it its:
A highly-blendable, gel-powder eye shadow with vivid color payoff.
What it does:
Effortlessly create endless eye looks that range from beautifully natural to highly artistic with this unique eye shadow palette. With its breakthrough, gel-powder formula blended with ultrafine pigments, Artist Shadow leaves a smooth, even result that gives lids super-saturated, lasting color. An easily-blendable formula that features diamond, iridescent, matte, metallic, and satin finishes, it is an accessible shadow for the professional makeup artist and the everyday woman.
After mulling over for some time, I ended up with: Flamingo (iridescent,) Azure Blue (satin,) and Mint Green (satin.) Each eyeshadow pan contains 0.07oz of product. These colours are not my usual to-go colours, but if I’m building a palette, I want a fancy one for myself!
Flamingo resembles NARS’ Orgasm blush; and I might double this as an eyeshadow/blush. I was worried that the pink would be too glittery, but the iridescent finish is low key that adds a bit of oomph to your lids. Azure blue is a rich blue that reminds me of a peacock. Mint green is the least pigmented out of the three, but I was looking for a green eyeshadow and I like how subtle and light this one is. I have swatches of each colour below; the colours get more pigmented if used with a wet brush.
We also got to pick a brush to use our new eyeshadows with! I chose the 236 Large Precision Blender Brush since the fluffy, domed bristles interested me. I haven’t had a brush of this shape for my eyeshadow blending needs, but so far, I likey. I love using this to blend the dark colours at the corner of my eye!
What it is:
A large, round brush used to smudge and blend easily over large areas.
What it does:
This soft, yet firm brush with wavy fibers delicately smudges any eye shadow for easy and quick application. It is a staple tool for any makeup kit, and is especially useful for creating a smoky effect. It can be used with creams, as well as loose and pressed powders.
Flamingo and Azure Blue blends a nice purple into the centre of my eyelid. The Mint Green doesn’t show up well when used in combination, but it looks amazing with a gold eyeshadow colour.
An individual eye shadow retails for $24 CAD at Sephora and you can add a pan for $1, as the eyeshadow comes in a disposable plastic case. If you purchase a duo or trio, you get a discount as well.
