From being a young adult/teen fiction addict, dark lips meant being a vampire or Bella Swan. My interest in the dark reds started when I watched The Great Gatsby and also did a cosplay of Mako Maki from Pacific Rim. I have stared so long at my face wondering what kind of makeup to put on so I can make dark lips wearable. I’ve been playing around with some not-my-typical-daily-colours with Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains.
I briefly introduced Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in Miami Fever in my post on orange lip products. These stains are like a shiny juice drenching over your lips. With Vitamin E and Aloe Vera, this liquidy formula resolves the dry, tuggin’ feeling in your lips. I’ve tried out the brights and now it’s time to turn to the dark side with Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in Stockholm Chic and New York Scene. (All the lip stains in this line is named after cities- I want to get London Posh now since it’s one of my favourite places to visit.)
Again, I’d like to mention my feels for the rectangular packaging of the glosses. They line up nice and easy, they don’t roll around when trying to snap a good blog picture (so many countless times where I have been chasing after those chubby stick balms); I applaud the makeup engineers behind this design.
The doe foot applicator is quite wide, so it covers quite a bit of surface area when applying on my lips. One swipe delivers a pow-in-your-face colour. Revlon isn’t sticking to subtleness with their new lip products, so if you’re are looking for the au naturel look, try their Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains instead. These bring high shine like a diamond and there is no stickiness to it! I hate sticky glosses; they’re a magnet for hair AND little flies.
/story: I was wearing L’Oreal Color Riche Extraordinare Lip Colour out and about in the public, and I felt the TINIEST fly bump into my lip. I’ve had several times when bugs and stuff graze me, but my lips fell “off” after this fly encounter. I ran into Shoppers drug mart in Richmond Centre (near my bus stop) and that fly was stuck on my lip. I nastily wiped it off with a tissue and felt sorry for the little creature who died by lip gloss. /
So yeah, a bit paranoid with sticky glosses in super hot weather now.
The Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains last around 2.5- 3 hours on me. They get easily blotted off with tissue and there’s not much of a stain left. That’s not too much of a concern for me (even though they’re called stains,) but that means I can wear the other lipsticks I usually carry around with me! 😀

I feel a bit of a Gossip Girl (I binge watch that stuff…again and again..) vibe with New York Scene. Blair Waldorf’s perfect pout always completes her style. New York Scene is a crimson red colour. It’s a bit intimidating at first when the stain is still in “wet” mode (though I LOVE that shininess that’s captured in photos) then it turns into a glossy, balm texture. If I’m ever going to a fancy ball gown, this is what I’m going to wear.
I’m not sure if you can tell from the picture on the left, but it is a bit uneven since I had some dry lips. I had better luck in application when I wore it the second time. Also, because it’s so creamy, I had some of it transfer on my teeth. I watched that stain go from on the front of my lips and rolllllin to the back then landed on my teeth. Since I am more careful with red lip products, I usually apply it several times to make sure I have coloured right on my lip contours (especially on the bottom), so my bottom lip ends up being over saturated with product.
Stockholm Chic is more of a coppery, brownish-red colour. I was scared when I first swatched it, since it looked pretty brown to me, but it’s actually quite wearable for a neutral makeup look.
The Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains left a deep impression on me; the hydration formula and the non stickiness is what I usually look for in lip products. I still have one more to share later on- Barcelona Nights! I’ve seen them for sale at Shoppers Drug Mart and London Drugs, but I’m fairly certain they are also at Walmart, Target etc.
Any plans to try Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains?
(Life update: I got a bee or wasp sting on my foot 🙁 sucks! Hope you are are bug contact free this summer! )
