There’s nothing like a good bowl of beef noodle soup on a cold day. Beef broth and fatty meat is delicious and hearty! Recently, I tried No.1 Beef Noodle House in Burnaby. My food experience in Burnaby isn’t as vast compared to Richmond, Vancouver, so glad to add another restaurant to my mental list-of-places-I-know-where-to-eat-in-Burnaby.
As this place is called No.1 Beef Noodle House, I hoped I was getting No.1 quality. So far, my favourite place for beef noodles is Chef Hung.
It wasn’t busy when me and my +1 sat down, and for those 6-7 minutes we were sitting down looking at the menu, no one gave us teas or asked if we were ready to order. ==”
I ordered the Half Beef Half Tendon noodle. When I ordered, the waitress asked what noodles I wanted, so I asked what kind do they have? She kind of “threw down” the noodle choice sheet infront of me. There are six noodle choices, including egg noodles, rice noodles, chopped noodles..and I can’t recall the other types. I chose rice noodles for mine.
My rice noodles were so thin and transparent, whereas my boyfriend’s choice of egg noodles were more chewy and had more taste over the rice noodles I got. I think thicker noodles are more suited for beef noodle, but I thought the rice noodles would be the thin, more solid white noodles.
I was satisfied with the big vegetables in the soup, you can never have too much veggies! I also like how they addd the pickled cabbage in; delicious!! Now onto the bulk of the meal, I liked the beef as they were tender and rich in flavour, but the tendon was average. The soup was not bad, though a bit oily. I needed the soup to eat the rice noodles so I would have flavour in each spoon.
My boyfriend ordered the House Special noodles. It comes with three wontons so I stole one. The wontons were the type that explodes with beef and herb flavour when bitten; I wish I got wontons with my noodle soup too! He got egg noodles and it’s a much better combination with beef noodles compared to rice noodles.
Since this is is a Taiwanese style cafe, you can order bubble tea. I ordered the Ice Cream coffee. If you want a drink but then also a dessert; yet you can never finish both, the ice cream coffee is a fair choice. 🙂 The coffee was refreshingly sweet and reminded me of the French coffee you can order at Vietnamese restaurants. I enjoyed this beverage and I was glad I didn’t order my usual honey milk tea.
Overall, the food was decent although service was subpar. I would come back if I was in the area though, beef noodles satisfy me anytime.
Notes to take away:
- Cash Only
- Parking there is very inconvenient. If you are going up Willingdon, keep driving up the road and turn right to the first residential area you see and park there, or the neighbourhood behind No.1 Beef Noodle House.
