Normally when I think of lip product brands I like, Clinique wouldn’t automatically pop into mind. Though recently, I can’t put down my sample sized of Clinique’s Almost Honey Lipstick in Lovely Honey. There was a gift-with-purchase going on at The Bay, and one of the items in the gift bag was a sample of the Almost Honey Lipstick. The Black Honey is quite hyped, and I have yet to try that particular colour. I’m going to give an overview of another lipstick, Lovely Honey, in the Almost Lipstick line. Ever since I got this, I’ve kept it in my purse and I constantly find myself reapplying.
The usual full sized Clinique Almost Honey Lipsticks come in a sleek, thin metal tube. The sample sized version is in a small plastic tube, and the colour of the tube is the same as the lipstick bullet. The name “Almost Lipstick” says that it’s not a gloss and not a lipstick. It’s meant to go on sheer and blend into your lips.
Lovely Honey is a sheer plum colour; and there is almost no pigmentation. This is a disadvantage if you would be looking for a plum lipstick that would give you decent coverage. However, if you want to go for a natural day look, Lovely Honey gives a slight tint and a slight, shiny finish that is neither sticky nor thick. I can use this effortlessly without a mirror and layer it on my lips. It covers flaky and chapped lips easily. As moisturizing as it is, it doesn’t last very long; expect to reapply between meals and drinks, and every 1.5-2 hours.I can’t detect any fragrance on this and it is made paraben free.
I would classify Lovely Honey as a “my lips but better” lipstick. Although it is supposed to give my lips a hint of plum, it leans toward a dark, salmon pink on me. I also wore Lovely Honey in my previous post on my review of MYNK lashes as well.
To me, Lovely Honey seems like a less pigmented version of BITE Beauty Lush Lip Tint in Blackcurrant (review here.) BITE’s lip tint goes for $28 though, compared to $19 for a Clinique Almost Lipstick. I like wearing Lovely Honey around work or going out casually as it’s easy to put on and it looks more natural; whereas wearing BITE’s lip tint is a tad bit more daring.
I have been using this daily, and I am considering to purchase it if another gift with purchase pops up! I don’t think it’s worth purchasing alone, given that it resembles a tinted lip balm. Almost Lipsticks can be purchased at Sephora, or The Bay.
Have you had experience with Almost Lipsticks, or do you consider it as an overpriced lip balm?
