One of my favourite lunch spots near Richmond Centre is Torarenbo Japanese Restaurant. Their food is always made with quality and I never had a bad experience there. My mom and I went there recently (although this post is sort of overdue…) and once again, they did not fail to disappoint me with their lunch menu.

Upon arriving, we were greeted, sat down, given menus and green tea! I love their lunch menus- they have a page with different box lunches you can order. My mom and I shared the Tonkatsu lunch box.

The lunch box comes with free miso soup. The soup was filled with flavour, although I wish I had more tofu. That’s just me being picky though, and loving tofu.Let’s break down the lunch box:
I love their salad. The sauce they use always whets my appetite. I don’t know what kind of sauce it is , but it’s addictive. I wish I could put that stuff on all my veggies. My mom ate most of it cause she loves the salad so much. The rolls that accompanied the meal were ordinary. Nothing bad to complain, nothing amazing to gloat.
The tonkatsu was well fried, and it was not oily. I wish the fried skin was stuck onto the meat more though, as parts of it came off while I was picking it up with chopsticks. The tonkatsu was juicy and savoury. It was also easy to munch. The worchester sauce and the tartar sauce are always great condiments to dunk my meat in. The oranges were also sweet and refreshing!
We also ordered a mango roll. This is quite pricey ($9.75 if I recall correctly,) but it tastes so exquisite!

I’m a sucker for anything mango.
The inside of the roll is the same as a California roll, without the seaweed. The quality of this California roll exceeds the California roll that came with the lunch box. They’re basically on two different levels of California roll goodness. The mango was also fresh, sweet, and ripe. The combination of avocado, mango, fish eggs, imitation crab, and mango was very gratifying. I think the imitation crab of this mango roll has more quality than the rolls that came with the lunch box because I swear they tasted different.

I was satisfied and full after my meal. This is a great lunch spot in a convenient location. The quality of the ingredients is fresh and their rolls are well made. This place is worth a visit if you are in the area searching for some good Japanese food.
