I was doing a bit of room cleaning the other day and found something in a tin box- Maybelline’s Colour Sensational High Shine Lipstick in Coral Lustre. I got it from Shoppers Drug Mart last year on a very good deal and I probably threw it around in my room somewhere.

The packaging is the same for the other Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks- a bulky, plastic build. This high shine lipstick has a silver casing, opposed to the Pink Me Up which had a pink, transparent casing.

On a coral colour scale, this would be more orangey than pink. There are also sparkles within the lipstick. To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of sparkles, but once worn, it is very minimal so I got past that flaw. This is a sheer colour when swatched on the hand, but on me, it looks more pigmented than I thought!

I found that when I try this lipstick on in a room with darker lighting, it makes me look a bit foolish and clownish. However, once seen in natural light, it looks more subtle and brings a nice pop of brightness and colour to an otherwise, dull face. I find that one swipe will give sheer-medium pigmentation, and 2-3 swipes will be a true bold colour. I dab it gently since I didn’t want to look like something that came from a horror movie, and to reduce the concentration of glitter on my lips.
I prefer to wear this over lip balm. Even though it feels moisturizing, the lip balm makes the colour sink in better (for me) and it looks more rich. The colour lasted approximately 3-4 hours on me. Even wiping my mouth with a napkin after eating, I can still see a tint of coral on my lips. This does give a “shine,” hence the “high shine” lipstuck it was dubbed as.

Hmm, I think the colour clashes with my red plaid shirt a bit.
In essence, Coral Lustre is a great colour for this summer when used wisely. Too much is too bold, in my opinion, thus less is more. I wish that it would be more coral than orange coral.
