The Great Orange Lip Compilation

When I was a kid, orange was strictly for Halloween and TicTacs. I gladly grew out of it and realized how fun orange is from a fashionable standpoint. I want it on my cheeks, eyes, and my favourite, lips!

My makeup is pretty much everywhere in my room, it’s in cups, in pencil cases, in earring holders, on a tray, on a random notebook, sitting beside my books…it was time to comb through my stuff! I discovered I have a stash of orange lippies. Funny enough, not one of them is an actual lipstick; it’s crazy to believe how many types of lip products are in the markets nowadays- tints, glosses, stains, gloss-stain, lipstick-balm… the list continues.

Sometimes I get bored making the same face in a row…

It’s time to compile them in a post and hopefully you can find an orange that works for you! Let’s break each of these oranges down…

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain ($12.99 at London Drugs)*: I feel like I need to jump into a beach outfit when I wear this! It’s so fruit punchy looking, if someone poured this into a cup I’d drink it (it smells pretty darn good too!) I received this when I attended the London Drugs fall makeup preview beauty event  and this product was one of the things I was most excited about. I love the rectangular packaging with the bold, black border; it reminds me of a cartoon or something I reached through an anime book that reanimated into life. I got the colour 035 Miami Fever and I forsee myself getting more of these suckers soon and stack them everywhere! These are glossy yet not sticky and I can already feel the hydration seeping into my lips after I apply it.

Another orange Revlon product I have is Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm (ranges from approximately $6.99-$11.99 in drugstores such as London Drugs, Target, Shoppers…). It’s my first matte lippie, I don’t usually go for mattes cause my lips are pretty much dry all year round but I was intrigued by this line..so why not pick up my first matte lip product in the brightest colour possible and potentially not wear it if it looks terrible?? I find that this is the most unique orange colour in my collection, since it kind of reminds me of highlighters, except this one does a pretty job of highlighting the lips.

A previously reviewed product, Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Heftiest Hibiscus ($19 CAD) may be one the boldest baddies I own. It melts into the lips faster than Revlon’s Colorburst Matte Balm and I find that I have to be more careful when applying this, it’s easy to have uneven application with this. I could accidentally draw an orange mustache for myself and I wouldn’t know. Compared to Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain, the Clinique sits in my lip lines more. This is comparable to Revlon’s Miami Fever, depending if you’re more of a gloss girl or a lipstick girl.

So I realized with the bolder orange colours, I wore blue sweaters since blue and orange are opposites. Is it bad that I have more orange lippies than necessary or more blue shirts than I need?!

Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Gloss in Captivating Coral  is more of a muted orange compared to the other three above. (It also reminds me of Finding Nemo. I have a Nemo cup on my desk and it’s the cutest thing ever!)It looks scary in the plastic tube, but it goes on quite sheer so it’s a great for orange lip gloss beginners. I know everyone is loving Maybelline’s Color Elixir, but the quality of these is just as good and personally I like the taste and smell of Color Sensational over Color Elixir. I remember getting this for $3.99 at London Drugs; an exceptional deal!

Last but not least, I bought this LOVELY ME:EX Milky Tint from The Face Shop (which just opened in Richmond Centre couple months ago!) I can’t remember the last time I used a Korean lip product. I used to be into Korean lip tints when I watched Korean dramas and all the actresses look so natural on screen; seriously wanted to look like Geum Jan Di from Boys over Flowers once upon a time, I bought the colour Baby Peach for $9 in store. This is suited for those who want a hint of colour without the balm/gloss/sticky feeling because my lips absorbs this tint like a sponge. My lips are naturally dark salmon-y pink so this tint didn’t show up as well as I hoped.

Of course need to include a massive comparison swatch. {{ Sorry for my hairy arms XD }}

As this is meant to be more of a “what kind of orange lip can you wear” post rather than a full review of each product, let me know if you want a more in-depth analysis! I prefer to go bright and orange with Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain and Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Heftiest Hibiscus, but if I want to tone it down, Revlon Colorstay Matte Balm is an excellent choice. I should definitely try to use my Maybelline lip gloss more, possibly for more casual out goings. I do tend to use the lip tint for work to keep my makeup minimal and natural(seriously, it’s so casual working in a tech environment; jeans and hoodie/cardigan + shirt all day everyday!) There’s always an occasion for lipstick and orange doesn’t have to be just used to make a statement!

Heftiest Hibiscus looks so much more orange on me than it does on you :-O You look great with an orange lip though, suits you well.

I think orange lippies sort of look different depending on the pigment of the lips and the lighting! If I apply too many layers it looks fiery red! Thanks for the compliment ^^

Hey Whitney, great picks! I looove orange on you! Most of my oranges are pretty pigmented. I guess when I wear orange, I want to make a statement! I do own an LE one from MAC that came out last summer though. Maybe I should take that out more often :)

    • http://macaronsandmischief.com/ Whitney

Thanks Sunny! Haha yes you should! Or you could blend it with pink lipstick and make some pretty coral?

Hmm that one is really a tangerine color. I’m not sure that’s an option here! I really like orange lips when they’re full-on though. Fortunately it sits well on my skin tone :)

BLESS THIS POST. I (obviously) don’t have any orange lipsticks (but now that I think about it, I don’t have an orange blush either….SHAME) but UHM, THE REVLON MOISTURE STAIN LOOKS AMAZING ON YOU. It’s ‘juicy’ and the perfect orange. I WANT.

    • http://macaronsandmischief.com/ Whitney

You could kill two birds with one stone by getting an orange lipstick or something and try applying it to your cheeks ;)
DO GET REVLON! It actually looks like juice that I’d drink my own lips.

That Moisture Stain looks gorge on you! That’s one of the shades I don’t own actually, I currently have 4 haha. I have at least 6 of the matte/lacquer balms from Revlon too and something orange, not sure if we have the same. I find mine to be drying and it accentuates any dry patches I have, which is a bummer. I love orange lippies and can’t wait for my Orange Memebox to arrive haha xx

Thank you Donah! Haha I remember seeing a picture on instagram of your Revlon collection!! There’s an Orange memebox :O I’ll keep an eye out if you post it on your blog!
